UH Agenda Items May Be Too Cryptic for the Public Good?

Questions continued today about the pending sale of Rice University's student-run radio station to the University of Houston as Texas Watchdog asked whether open meeting notification
requirements were met in the official meetings.

According to the Texas Watchdog, attorney Joe Larsen, who is with the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas said UH may not have met open meetings requirements since it did not name the specific station being considered for purchase. Considering that there could be a high level of public interest, Larsen said, the name of the station should not have been omitted.

Larsen's position is supported by prior rulings by the Texas Attorney General's office, but UH contends it met every legal requirement in its meeting notices. Rice, as a private facility, is not subject to the open meetings laws, according to Texas Watchdog.

Next up, this Sunday's protest rally at Willy's Statue.
