• Houston's back-to-back 'ships have to be the best sports moment. The Rockets have been our most successful franchise, and the first year was against a heavily favored New York team, and the second was when we were the #6 seed. Phi Slamma Jamma has to be close, followed by the Astros World Series appeareance. The worst has to be Stockton in '97, game 7 of the 2007 playoffs (Okur hits big shots, Jazz get o-boards and steal the game) and game 4 of the World Series.

• 2003 six-pitcher, four-strikeouts-in-an-inning no-hitter against the Yankees?

• One that wasn't mentioned that still stings: Stockton in '97 hitting the three to send the Jazz to the Finals.

• My girlfriend told me to mention 1973; Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe playing together because she thought it was "nice".

• I am 'new' to Houston (here since 97) but my favorite sports memory was the first regular season game at Reliant... Texans 19 Cowboys 10. I was there to witness it and will never forget.

• Jeff Kent's walk off. Without a doubt the single greatest moment of sports joy I have ever experienced. I was living in Austin at the time and watching the game at a friend's apartment. I had been pacing in the living room for what was a pretty memorable pitcher's duel. When the ball left Kent's bat my friend and I (both lifetime Astros fans) embraced each other in a purely heterosexual display of sports ecstasy. I think we were all thinking what Kent was saying - "Just one more". And, the rest is typical Houston sports history. A heartbreaking moment no one ever talks about - 1999 NLDS Game 3. Best of 3 series tied at 1 game a piece. Game is tied in the bottom of the 10th and the Astros load the bases with nobody out. Next three batters go down, the worst of them being Tony Eusebio, who's hot shot up the middle was fielded in an amazing play by Walt Weiss. I wanted to cry after that one, but I figured it would do me no good. I was a Houston sports fan - I just had to get used to it.

• Any of the 3 times in history when Rice beat UT in football.

• Top moment: 1. Astros 18 inning win over the Braves- the stadium quit selling beer after the 7th inning, so all of us schlubs in the upper deck were thirsty and sober. Ausmus' homer to tie it in the 9th was freaking awesome to see, and Rocket coming out of the bullpen was cool too. Of course, Burke's 18th inning shot was the capper, but the aforementioned things made it very cool to be at. 2. Rockets 1st championship. Back when the NBA was actually cool and watchable, the city's first championship was VERY fun to witness and celebrate. The 2nd title was cool, but like other things, you never forget your first! 3. Astros acquire the Big Unit at the trading deadline. Even though the 'stros didn't win a playoff series, the buzz in the city when this trade went down was something special. The Carlos Beltran trade was almost as cool, but the Unit trade really made that Astros squad the team to beat in MLB. Top 'we was robbed' moments- 1. 1978 AFC Championship game vs. Steelers when Mike Renfro was denied a TD despite obvious video that he was in bounds and had control of the ball. That totally sucked. 2. Oilers lose 32 point lead and game to Buffalo. Ernest Givens was clearly interfered with on the interception Moon threw in OT, yet this is NEVER mentioned anywhere. I still get sick at my stomach when I hear about or see clips of this game.

• Best: Craig Biggio's 3000 hit Best: The Rockets, mid '90s. Worst: Albert Pujols home run in 2005 that ruined out home win against thr Cardinals to go to the world series. Worst: Making it to the world series and not winning a single game

• The two worst: J.R. Richard's stroke, and the 1983 U.H. Final Four loss to N.C. State. The best requires more thought.

• Man, I could do this all day. Awesome = the Nolan Ryan years Awful = the Bum Phillips years Awesome = the Killer B's Awful = the DisAstros Awesome = Earl Campbell Awful = Rudy Tomjanovich elbowed in the face OK, I'll stop now. Seriously.

• Oops, I guess I thought of a 4th heartbreaking moment up there. Let's be honest -- that side of the list could be much longer anyway.

• The three heartbreaking memories that stick out to me are 1) The Astros' awful division series vs. the Mets in 1986, 2) The comeback loss to the Buffalo Bills when the Oilers were up by 32 points and ended up losing 41-38, 3) When the Rockets earned the nickname Choke City by blowing a 4th quarter 20-point lead, losing to the Phoenix Suns in game 2 of the Western Conf semis, and 4) Dickie Thon getting in the head by a crazy fastball in 1984. Awesome moments: Rockets winning back to back NBA Championships in 1994 and 1995 (Nick the Brick Anderson!), getting the Texans as an expansion team, Phi Slamma Jamma at UH with Hakeem (who was Akeem at the time) and Clyde the Glide Drexler. The 1986 Astros season was dreamy until they lost to the Mets. And definitely the Battle of the Sexes -- Billy Jean King vs Bobby Riggs. Prolly some good golf here, too. Losing the Oilers would go somewhere in Houston sports purgatory. Drafting Mario Williams was such a let down at the time... but ended up awesome. Drafting David Carr was awesome at the time and ended up totally sucking.
