Rick Perry Gets PWNED By Arizona's Governor

• I'm not concerned about driving through Arizona. Far from it; I know that I can prove my citizenship whenever I am compelled to. The crux of my argument is that I should not have to prove my citizenship because I look Hispanic. Racial profiling exists, and despite the fact the law forbids it, there's no way to ensure it won't be a factor. All the documents preceding the law's signing, and all the e-mails between the law's writers make the intent of the law dubious. Taking a macro look at Arizona's current track record on race relations (SB1070, ethnic studies ban and even that mural controversy in Prescott) shows a trend closer to xenophobia and borderline racism than real concern for security. To take a utilitarian stand on this law is to betray the United States' legacy (albeit only a couple decades old) of race-blind legislation and opportunity. I'm a full supporter of immigration reform, but this law brings out the worst in us. Also, hyperbole is great in fiction. But comparing illegal immigrants to rapists is untoward and completely baseless. Even the most hateful, criminal person has rights in the American judicial system, illegal or not. You do the country more wrong by ignoring that fact than any hypothetical immigrant could do by mowing your lawn.

• Seriously?? All these people worried about this law infringing on their rights as an American Citizen?? I'm a 21 year old female, born and raised in this great nation, and as a matter of fact, I'm a 7th generation Texan. You want to see my identification to see if I'm an American citizen??? HECK YES I WILL SHOW YOU! I have nothing but pride for my country (and a little bit of sadness for what is being done with it) but why would you get your panties in a knot if you know you are doing nothing wrong? Why not show proof of citizenship, smile and be proud of your country, and then be on your way? And don't even get me started on the rights of illegal aliens. YOU are in my country ILLEGALLY. You BROKE a LAW to be here... YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS! This is the same feeling I have for rapists and those who hurt children in ANY way. Don't start b*tching about your rights and fairness. You clearly didn't think of the rights of the person or child that you hurt.

• Blurgh, as long as you have proper identification (i.e. you didn't get your ID from the SabaDomingo flea market on Airline) then you don't have that much to worry about. You are legally required in all 50 states to carry valid identification, and anyone (especially illegals) who get upset about that are demanding extraconstitutional rights that are not afforded to the rest of us. I'm Latina and not too concerned about traveling through Arizona because I'm nowhere close to an illegal. It's a bunch of Mexican separatist-nationalist nutbags and opportunists like LULAC that are getting up in arms about it. They're doing the equivalent of Sarah Palin getting the teabaggers up in arms about the Coming Socialism from Barack HUSSEIN Obama when it's all hype. And nothing brings more attention to an issue in America like summoning racism.

• The people who are against the law and making such a big stink are obviously illegal. Why else would anyone want to keep it the same way it is now? The masses are robbers. They take all medical, social security and curtiously offered help for granted. They expect it and demand it. They want you to give it to the rest of their fellow illegals. Then complain when America cant sustain them any more. Do not wast your breath arguing with the uninformed iddiots or illegal aliens. Just remember what the lagacy they are leaving for your childred and this country. They are the racist ones. They could care less about you the American. So they shout like a spoiled child its not fair you bad people. They should go shout in there own country and quit rapeing us.

At the point where the police make contact with an individual, they can use whatever red flags to inquire whether the suspect is a citizen or not. The law legally prohibits racial profiling, but there's no way of ever being 100 percent sure that it doesn't play a role. You would like to assume it won't. I'm not as generous. Your argument has officially devolved into blatant xenophobia. The official line isn't that Arizona is becoming northern Mexico, but that Arizona is plagued with drugs and the resulting violence. This is law based on fear of power loss, and it rarely gets more fascistic than that. (Have a great weekend.)

• None of those things you listed are cause for reasonable suspicion but you'll continue to make excuses and false assumptions/predictions. Unfortunately, they don't work with me. The people of Arizona are done with lame excuses. They are sick and tired of being overrun by foreigners. They are sick and tired of their cities and states being rapidly converted into Northern Mexico right before their very eyes. They are sick and tired of nothing being done about the problem and they are standing behind their Governor for listening to them and actually doing something about it. We all need to keep prodding our Representatives to follow suit. If the Feds refuse to enforce the law, someone has to!

• Nothing she was quoted as saying is factually wrong, as I've clearly stated more than once. But it's a misleading statement nonetheless. I never said that race is reasonable suspicion. A broken taillight. An unkempt yard. Too many people in a home. That's the reasonable suspicion that lets you sleep more comfortably at night. The fact that most of these criteria are stereotypically associated with suspects who are non-white is what keeps me up. People of authority have incorrectly assumed things about me because of my race before, and I won't stand for the same to happen to other lawful American citizens. A law that does not equally apply itself to anyone subject to it on grounds of a heavy accent or lack of documentation on demand has the obligation to be perfect. The Arizona law is far from it. United States citizens in Arizona (and any state that enacts a similar law) will suffer for it on account of not having the genetic propensity of being white.

• There's two ways to read what she said. You are reading it the way that best suits your agenda. Nothing shes said was wrong or a lie. You are assuming the police are going to ask every hispanic if they're a citizen or not. Not true. Only if there's reasonable suspicion to inquire. You know this yet you continue to pretend they're going to racial profile or unfairly ask citizens if they're here illegally. You've fallen for the untrue rhetoric the people against this law want you to believe. Think for yourself. Unless a person gives the officer some reason to believe they are here illegally, it won't be pursued. Skin tone is not reasonable suspicion. The vast majority of Arizonans are obviously fed up with the inaction by the Feds and are sick and tired of no one doing about the mass invasion that's taking over their cities and state. It's time to do something about it if the Feds refuse to. Sorry if you don't agree with them. Tough.

• I don't think you understand the concept of rhetoric yet. Her language matter-of-factly implies her father died fighting the Nazis in Germany. A lack of self-editing or context gives the casual listener or reader the idea that her father died...fighting Nazis in Germany. The fact that he died ten years after World War II contradicts the implication in her quote. The fact that she doesn't feel it necessary to address that misunderstanding makes her motives on the topic questionable to some and perfectly fine to people like you. Back on topic, though. Fact one: I was born in South America. Fact two: I look Hispanic. Fact three: I became a United States citizen in high school. Now say I lived in Arizona. I drive my car one night, and it turns out I unknowingly have a taillight out. I obviously get pulled over, on account of the taillight. I comply. Should I then just be okay with a hypothetical police officer asking for proof on whether I'm a citizen or not? No, the law doesn't only alienate aliens. It alienates American citizens who come from non-Caucasian backgrounds and came about to specifically target law-breaking Latinos. Not law-breakers, but law-breaking Latinos, because they are somehow the only reason for violence and the drug economy in Arizona. We end up looking suspicious because our skin tones match those of a violent few. A broken taillight becomes mere justification for treating me differently from a white citizen with the same broken taillight. The American majority's been wrong before. And I don't have to be there to understand their situation. I just have to remember that I'm an American citizen and won't tolerate having the law applied disproportionately because of melanin concentration.

• Stop misquoting her, that's not what she said. Do you even know what quotation marks mean? How many illegal aliens have you met? I say you're lying. This law complicates nothing. It gives AZ LEOs power to enforce law the Feds refuse to do. Almost 70% of citizens of Arizona back it. I guess they all have Nazi tendencies as well? You're full of it. • In plain English, Brewer said that her father: "died fighting the German regiments of Hitler." You seem to think this is in no way misleading. If that were really the case, I must admit that I've met illegal immigrants who speak better English than Jan Brewer. Imagery of Nazis and Hitler work against a liberal president, but cross a line in terms of a law that further complicates a very complex issue by alienating a growing ethnic population by telling them that they are subject to inquisition by authorities on the basis of vague suspicious behavior. Understood. I'll be the first to agree, though, that partisans appeals falsely contextualized with Nazi imagery are the first sign of rhetorical weakness.

• Now let's address the illegal alien apologists and racebaiters that insist on trying to link enforcing the law with religious persecution and genocidal mass murder by the Nazis. Talk about pathetic. Is that all they've got? Really?? (it's not working)

• Jan Brewer said what she said about her father in a specific manner so as to appeal to heightened partisan notions of nationalism prevalent in the Tea Party movement. To now declare that what she was recorded as saying was factually correct without at all looking at the intent of the statement (e.g., that she resents allegations of Nazi-like fascism because her father "died fighting the German regiments of Hitler") or at least recognizing the misstatement, which she has yet to do, is ridiculous. Syntax and word choice matters. Unless you think they're elite liberal Alinsky tools to bring about fascistic Nazi socialist communism.

• Rick Perry needs to find his backbone and stand up for the citizens of Texas. If he is not willing to lead this great state, then he needs to get out of the way and let someone else get the job done. I don't believe that Perry is interested in securing our borders because his corporate buddies (and campaign contributors) benefit from the cheap labor. By the way, have anyone heard about the Falcon Dam incident? Drug cartels very recently planned on blowing up the dam (killing many Texans along with it). Google it for yourself. Perry, protect your state!

• Folks, Arizona gets the VAST majority of the illegal alien traffic due to its remoteness. So the troops are more needed in Arizona than Texas. In case you haven't forgotten Robert Krentz, a rancher near Douglas, AZ was shot and killed on his own property by smugglers retaliating against him for helping the Border Patrol catch a load of dope the day before and shortly thereafter a Deputy was murdered a few hundred miles away. Also, one of the reasons Texas get less traffic is they prosecute much more strictly than Arizona so they have less people attempt to cross their border.

• Well, in all fairness, years ago there were two separate projects in El Paso (Operation Hold The Line) and San Diego (Operation Gatekeeper) to tighten the border security and that left Arizona with a gape to then funnel the illegals in that way. That's a big part of why Arizona felt the need to pass SB1070.. so... yeah... just a little tidbit of knowledge for ya.
