Houston GLBT Community Center president Tim Brookover said "The Center condemns this attack against a member of our community."
Their description of the event:
On June 22, at 1:40 p.m., Lance Reyna, a transgender man, was attacked at knifepoint on the campus of Houston Community College. Reyna was attacked in a restroom by a male who said "Hey, queer!" in a falsetto voice and put a knife to his throat. The attacker then told Reyna to hand over his valuables and began beating Reyna. Once Reyna was on the ground, the attacker kicked him in the head.Brookover said Reyna suffered a concussion and was treated and released at a local hospital.
KPRC reports that noted he was very open on campus about his sexuality.
HCC put out a statement saying they are investigating. "In the last 48 hours, the police department has investigated all possible leads and clues to help apprehend the culprit of this crime. The victim in this case has been extremely cooperative and with his first-hand information has help police narrow the investigation," the statement said.
YouTube also has been heating up with news of the crime, which occurred on HCC's central campus.
The attacker was described as a black man with a shaved head; someone used Reyna's credit cards after they were stolen in the incident, Brookover said. He urged anyone with info to call the cops or Crime Stoppers.
