No, not THIS Amadeus
The Alley Theatre is mounting some ambitious, big-name productions for the 2010-11 season, according to an announcement released today.

Among the shows will be Amadeus, the popular Mozart play that hasn't been done here in a long while; the Pulitzer-Prize winning August: Osage County and A Behanding in Spokane, the newest play from dark-comedy lord Martin McDonagh, which currently stars Christopher Walken on Broadway.

Both of the new plays will be Alley productions, not touring versions of the Broadway shows.

The season will also feature two world premieres, including one by Rajiv Joseph, who also premiered a play here last year, Gruesome Playground Injuries with Selma Blair. This time around it will be The Medusa Body, described as "a psychological thriller."

The other world premiere will be a solo play called A Weekend With Pablo Picasso, by Herbert Siguenza.

Rounding out the offerings will be "a full-scale production" of classics Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up and Pygmalion.

Alley artistic director Gregory Boyd says:

"The upcoming season has a huge personal resonance for me, and I hope it will thrill and excite our audiences. We have large new sweeping productions of famous but seldom seen plays that I have loved for a long time and new work by American playwrights Tracy Letts, Rajiv Joseph and Herbert Siguenza that represent some of the best new writing for the American theatre.

We have a season with great theatricality and emotional sweep - and with wonderful, extraordinary characters and brilliant opportunities for the Alley artists to create. We think this is one of the most exciting seasons we have ever produced."

The season opens with A Behanding in Spokane August 27.
