Teacher Gives Student A Lesson In Whoop-Ass

KRIV's Ned Hibbard got his hands on the teacher-fight video of the year, a brawl in a Houston charter school.

Officials at Jamie's House Charter School say the teacher has been fired, now that they've seen the video.

Then again, the video was shot last month by students in the class -- some of whom can be heard laughing during the incident -- so you wonder what took so long.

The teacher, Sherri Davis, definitely gets style points for her dramatic stalking style as she corners her prey.

But then things fall apart, and she just ends up kicking and grabbing while the kid hangs on. Not too stylish.

"I was on the wall like this trying to get away from her and she started hitting me, banging my head to the wall and kicking me," the kid told Hibbard.

As a teacher, thats an inappropriate action but I believe at some point that teacher just got fed up with that students behavior being that she had no support from administration/staff (especially if they stood there and watched her do it instead of being a supportive co-worker and the one with the leveled head at that moment) nor did she have support of the parent. Now my tax paying dollars is going to this money hungry parent that probably gets everything handed to her. I willing to put on everything that I own, that she gets some free assistance with this kid/s. Why wasn't that parent on the sceen before now? How many parent conferences has she attended this school year? If she was an involved parent, this would of never happened because she would of had a parent-teacher or teacher-parent realtionship. As a teacher it is very important to have a bond with your students parents. In my classroom, my parents are my secret ingredient to my students learning. No, I'm not justifying what the teacher did was right but maybe the kid needed it. I've gotten my share of "You better do what you suppose too" and I'm still here with three degrees. The teacher took matters into her own hands, now she is fired. As parents, we all should know our own children and that parent knows that her son is a bully. I don't even know the kid and just how he looks and speaks, that he has behavior issues. His behavior issues stems from him being big for his age and him being on a low level academically. He's probably been classified as ADHD. Just listening to the kid on the news and how he responded let me determine that the kid is not a scholar and no where near it. The question is, "What if this was your son?" My son has known since he was 3 that his purpose for going to school is to learn. He also knows that if his teacher ask him to do something or not to do something, he knows to respect that. Here's the key, as a parent, morals and values are instilled into my children and all that begins at HOME with Mommy!!!
Yesterday, I wrote my comments before I saw the video. I still believe what I first wrote is accurate, but I know as professionals we can use physical force to intervene on behalf of other students. However, after viewing this video, the teacher should have stopped once she had subdued the students. Why didn't her paraprofessionals intervene and help her control the boy. Why wasn't anyone calling the office for help...or calling 911? I can empathize with the teacher, but just so far. And why has it taken a month before this came out? I hope this charter school has good insurance, because mom has a case and a half!
After 33 years in the public school system, I am getting tired of hearing how an IEP allows students in high schools to behave--or misbehave. No police officer will ever ask a child if they can see his IEP when he commits a crime. Yes, Special Education is vitally important to our children, but we cannot allow students to use their academic disabilities to misbehave. Even those chidren who have social emotional issues, must be held accountable. They cannot be allowed to bully and run the asylum...and that is what is truly happening. With over 150,000 student attacks on teachers every year, don't you think it's time that either we get policemen on every campus or bring in the National Guard! It is a crisis!
This is an outrage. The teacher and none of the students were in any immediate danger. Her actions were unwarranted. I hope she gets what she deserves.
No sympathy for the kid. Kids in this school have criminal records and have no respect for teachers. This kid`s parents do not get involved in raising him properly . That kid needs to be tought discipline and respect. These kids need to think next time they want to bully, be unrespectful , and misbehave. Hope the kid got a lesson from this. And look at the mother. Never cared for the kid before - moving him around -- and now she`s after the money and suing the school -- Wake up lady -- raising your kid is what your priority should be. So we dont , as a society, have to live with your problematic kid and his unaceptable behavior and actions...
I want to know where is the full video from two weeks ago before the story broke showing the boy striking the teacher. Why is no one showing that portion of the fight. Not to mention when the girl explanes what happened before. I'm not excussing the teacher, but if that boy did that to someone outside of school, well you can fill in the rest

This is exactly why I will never work with children!! The parents are really chiming in when you have never worked in this type of environment!! I have a special needs child who before special education would have been deemed as bad!! I assist the educators in their struggle with him which clearly this mom (by the looks alone) does not!! There is no excuse for hitting someone else's kid but I am willing to bet if the mom was doing her job in supporting his teachers, this wouldnt have happened!! How dare us parents put it ALL on the school system to raise our bad a$$ kids!! Now see what happens when you dont discipline?? Fast forward him a few years to the county jail and TDC where beatings are permitted and there aint nothing you can do about it!!
I am in disbelief over the people that are defending this woman's actions. Playing?? I dont' think so. That video was chilling, disturbing and WRONG! The actions or non-actions of the other teachers is unacceptable. I am appalled and hope this woman is severely punished - she committed a crime.
I know there are two sides of every story but you simply cannot tolerate such actions. As a parent, as a school, as a community, as a county... This cannot be acceptable any in shape or form. If you take a swing at a minor you should face consequences and as I see it, she took about 12 swings.. not only should she be fired, which she has been, she should spend some time in jail.
Well, not much to say but...WOW!!! I only wish the media would investigate prior to giving headlines. The media HYPES it up for a story. She didnt beat him... she probably scared the ship out of him though! Maybe others will think before they react. What a lesson to learn on both behafs. To the Mom...get real!! If your son came home with all that you say, you would have went to school trying some whoop a-- yourself! Quit triping you know your son. We need prayer back in the school and a little whoop a-- too!
Let's not act like this student was sitting at his desk hands folded solving equations for x. He was threatening to beat up a girl (acceptable...I think not) He is in a school for behavior problems, that means he has demonstrated some exceptionally serious behaviors. The moments leading up to this video are not seen, which is unfortunate. Teachers spend tireless hours trying to teach children, and end up babysitting people's poorly trained children who have no respect for the teacher's or themselves. Is it right to hit a student? ABSOLUTELY not! But I do feel for this teacher as she is human and was clearly pushed to her limit, and now is being judged by people who have no idea how hard her job truly is. If you find yourself judging this teacher or any other, I challenge you to spend one day in a classroom similar to hers, and see for yourself what teachers deal with everyday. You might see just how frustrating she must have been.
So many adults (with children) are out of touch with the way their children behave towards adults in schools!!! Try this job for a day...as a matter of fact a couple of hours...especially in a middle school...an urban middle school! Wake up people!
What "other side" is there that would account for a teacher repeatedly punching a student half her age? You would have to be a barbaric idiot NOT to play "judge, prosecutor and jury" here.
I say that we all agree to disagree. I will admit that there are kids who provoke teachers to the point of no return. It isn't shown what the child did to that teacher, just that she beat that butt. I have kids in that same age bracket, so I can understand the parent being up set. I've also worked in the school system, so when you say that teacher are suppose to be educating the children, what are the parents suppose to be doing. Learning starts at home. If you raise your child to be mindful of others and respect the adults around them, then you can trust that your child won't show his or her behind in public (outside your view); but with the way that television is raising children, you can't honestly say that the child didn't do anything tho the teacher first. However, before we decide to play judge, prosecutor and jury, find out both sides of the story. So I'm saving my judgment for when I see the entire video, not just the clips that were posted on the internet.

They look like they were playing. A black eye? I doubt it. The mother is trying to cash in. I believe the young man was embarrassed, the video was all over youtube and that is why he told his mother he was beaten.
I have worked with 13 yr old. I am almost certain that this kid did something to provoke this action, however, I still say as a teacher you have to be the cooler head and find a better solution other than hitting a child, even when you really, really want to!!!
