Rick Perry Blames God For Gulf Oil Spill

The alleged culprit, giving the order to blow Deepwater Horizon
A lot of people are quick to blame BP, or the people who put together the oil rig that is currently spewing black gold into the Gulf of Mexico, but Rick Perry -- the only governor we have at the moment -- knows better.

Speaking at a Washington conference today, Perry was eager to stop any of that tree-hugging talk that would argue a simple huge, gigantic oil-rig disaster should stop anyone from drilling in the Gulf.

Perry said that the accident "could be an act of God," Politico reports, thereby being the first Gulf governor to squarely put the blame where it belongs -- not on the oil industry, but on Yahweh.

Yahweh -- a/k/a the Supreme Being (we think that's his rap name) -- could not be reached for comment to defend Himself against Perry's accusation.

rick-perry0503.jpg
Perry thinks God better have a good alibi
Perry did not elaborate on why he thought the All-Powerful would set loose millions of gallons of crude upon some of the most fragile coastline in His creation. Probably some insurance scam or something.

After putting a target on God's back, Perry emphasized the most important thing to be learned from what's happened -- we should not stop drilling.

"We don't know what the event that has allowed for this massive oil to be released," Perry said alongside several other governors on a panel Monday. "And until we know that, I hope we don't see a knee-jerk reaction across this country that says we're going to shut down drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, because the cost to this country will be staggering."
Maybe God should think about such things before He decides to blow up an oil rig, for crissakes.

It is so very sad. First the original BP spill, now I just heard that another rig has exploded in the Gulf. I hope no one was injured this time.

Yahweh Yahushua is coming. Go to everyone you know and tell them to remove the hate from their minds, bodies, and hearts. Also do so yourself. All who believe the testimony of Yahweh Yahushua are sealed with the name of Yahweh upon their foreheads. Tell this to everyone you know.

it is refreshing to find a site, any site, these days where you don't have to have 3 verifications and an ACCOUNT to leave a post as even the internet freedom disappears. But, getting back to the article, it is amazing how confused some people are these days. The economic implosion is having it's intended affect. Rick Perry is nothing but a puppet and serves his God called Money. That's the reason why he blames The GOD of Moses for the accident since no way BP had anything to do with it. And no, I am not a democrat either,, or a liberal or a conservative, or anything else. I am AWAKE to the truth. nothing is going to change until everyone stops sending these whores their tax money to plug into all their schemes and private jets. The constitution is dead. We are under martial law. You people need to wake up.

What has the Christian God got to do with the BP oil spill? Nothing.

BP's gross negligence is what is to blame for this mess we have in the gulf. What needs to happen is that everyone should boycott BP until the oil leak is fixed and the gulf is cleaned up. Dont buy their gas, oil or anything else from their stations.Maybe we can get their attention.

By the way, looking at some of Richard Connelly's other articles, I wonder whether he is actually perhaps a clever conservative trying to sabotage liberals by making them look like absolute fools. Articles like this discredit real, substantive, critics of Republicans and make liberals in the news media look foolish and petty. It's quite possible he really is a foolish and petty liberal, but he could in fact be a double agent! Something to think about.

NorskeDiv

What a pathetic article! People accused conservatives of being poorly educated, this is clear demonstration that the people writing this article, and most of the "outraged" people responding to it, are not even at a seventh grade reading level.

Act of God is an idiom, like "by the skin of my teeth" or Obama's use of "green behind the ears" in the Oct 7 2008 presidential debate. When people use idioms, they are actually not literally saying the thing which their statement would indicate. Obama did not mean the back side of his ears are green. Most people saying "by the skin of my teeth" are not trying to indicate they barely accomplished something and skin on their teeth made the difference.

So "Act of God" would be interpreted by a person with a good elementary school education as meaning an event which mankind could not have reasoanbly prevented. In this case that could be a whale swimming into the pipe, a mini earthquake or some simply unforeseeable problem combining many failures at many different levels of engineering (like the Apollo 13 near disaster).

By the way, every time I see some INANE propoganda peice like this for Democrats, it makes me more likely to vote Republican. I encourage other thinking people to follow this lead whenever there is such an atrocious news article, regardless of the issue or party. If it's a dumb article hyping up the supposed danger of nuclear power, send letters to congress asking for MORE nuclear power, if it's a dumb article hyping the danger of GM food, send letters to congress asking for MORE GM food. We need to actively counter act the spread of stupidity and stop it achieving critical mass.

"Act of God" is only applicable if you attribute both the good and the bad in our world, as Christians believe and teach that God created EVERYTHING, so that means even the Devil. Act of God is the way insurance companies blame someone else so that they don't have to pay, just as we see these BIG THREE companies, backing up like crawdads. We who live in this area or adjoining states, know that it wasn't God who was doing this activity, and we are certain that God didn't set that oil station, because we have the names of those who did. We can also say Halliburton, after all those rigs have exploded, has since after the Iraq War, moved to Dubai to avoid being held responsible for all those unaccounted for millions of dollars. This same Texas-based slimy company and the Texas' Governor's mentality are the same--to exploit anything for money, and keep dropping God's name so that all the shallow, superficial religious groups will fall in lockstep behind them. You just don't see them paying for anything except lobbyists and mansions. (I suppose even Palin was told by God to quit her job in Alaska before she could get a track record and be embarrassed by her lack of credentials, but I don't know.) They will eventually pay for their dastardly deeds alright, just has God threatened, but let's just hope that it is sooner, rather than later, so that we, the other voters and taxpayers, whom they have run roughshod over for years, get to see them get their just deserves for devastating the earth that God said for us to take care of. They seem, in their superficial religions, to avoid most of what God said, just hand-picking the specific verses which they like. They'll pay for that one day, too, at least according to the book. Too bad they keep referring to it and thumping it, but don't get around to reading it all. After all, was it an act of God that they lied about weapons of destruction? Was it God who told Brown & Root to sell Kuwait all that slant-drilling equipment, so that they could slant-drill into Iraq and steal another country's oil, causing the Gulf War? Did they think Saddam would just ignore it, or did they just want to start another war to look protectively patriotic to voters who don't know about their antics? Looks like a pattern of starting wars for profit to anyone with a lick of sense. If that had been Oklahoma doing the slant-drilling, Texas would have for sure been at war. As my home state, I love Texas, but some of the con-men and corruption for which they are notorious, soil the beauty of Texas. Maybe Tom DeLay really didn't REALLY know that Abramoff was stealing and defrauding the American Indians. I doubt it. Texas needs to get its head out of the sand and quit selling out to corporations. Remember that Enron was not in Louisiana, that scam was not only just another national Texas rape of the voters, it was another immoral display of the good'ol boy mentality (only on a high dollar level) that we grew up with in Texas, where companies don't mind that their employees die from pollution, just as long as the fat cats get their profits, just like the profits from the blood of our children in their staged wars. They may have to answer for that, too; and Bible history tells us that God doesn't allow exceptions for their double-talk. The rest of us just want to watch them get it, just as we have watched others have to take their bullying. This is one of the States that didn't mind that Bush took a surplus and left the largest debt in history, just as all Republican administrations documentedly do, and they now want to blame the one that inherited it. Not only that, they were very hypocritically silent when Bush's administration was doing that, and NOW they want to speak up? That's called a real jerk! This is why it is so nice to be an independent. Tell Rush Limbaugh to go to Galveston for a vacation so that he can enjoy the pristine beaches and wonderful air. Fair and balanced, RIGHT.....everybody's mother didn't raise a fool; but you don't want to give these jerks the facts once they've got their minds made up, you only confuse them.

God holds His whole creation into place 24/7 so we must pray for God to send the right people along to plug up this hole in ocean stop the oil from pouring out of :"God i know that all things are possbile with you but not with man so Lord God will you send folks to concrete off that spot or area so we can keep out creatures of the ocean that you along created for us ,& i guess it has to be the similar material that the fishes are made out of so the water wont log it down or form ice crystals :give man the beauty of the oceans forever ,amen .

If Rick Perry knew all along who did it then why worry about the apill. Where ever the oil ends up will be an act of god so just leav it alone and let it do gods work.

I think life on this planet is way easier than we make it. Why is it that we always go with the most complicated idea instead of the easiest most simple way. What a mess! I will boycott. I am working on becoming completelysolar. I will not participate in oil or nuclear power. I will move to the countryside and use solar power for lighting, Barbeque with natural charcoal, I will wash my clothes by hand, I will not watch Televison as it is not positive energy, and I will ride a horse to work!!! Why don't we ask a Child what their ideas are on the subject? I'll bet a pre-schooler would have a better solution than a politician. We are all connected. The animals, plants and humans. All living cells.

See this is what happens when they give an idiot liberal an opinion and a typewriter. Instead of reporting the news like they should they decide to spout off about their feelings and try to manipulate everyone into agreeing with their agenda. What Governor Perry meant was it could have been caused by Mother Nature. It could have been just a huge pressure relief from the Earth under the wells surface. A relief strong enough could cause the emergency cut off valve below to fail and blow out. There may be nothing that could have stopped this. Those valves are tested weekly to ensure that they are functioning properly. They have survived numerous hurricane seasons. This dumbass shouldn't open his mouth until all the facts are known and the investigation is complete

Does not matter if we are driving solar cars or not. Another disaster like this and we will just kill all the oceans. Then where will we be? What will become of our children and their children? If you do your research...most all of life started in our oceans. Just sayin'...

wineguy, As an atheist I can testify to the uncaring hand of entropy (fate is for superstitious fools). The laws of thermodynamics drian the life from our bones and the imminant heat death waits for us all. And "well being" is a subjective fantasy that the spinning molecules in your body care not one whit about. This, or an invisible man with a beard.Your choice.

wineguy
wineguy

well, here is a first, I am going to compare wine to politics. One I love(the former), and one which general drives me to distraction and a glass of the former (the latter). As with wine blogs, they can be a good source for opinion, and even information, Politic blogs should be treated likewise. For the un-informed, un-aware and general public; these tools are worth exzactly what you pay for them, and what their writers are generally paid to do them. Which is nothing, I am not saying they are worthless, but free advice or comment is exactly that.As for the whole blaming God thing, he is doing a number of things.1. Trying to deflect blame away from an industry we all rely on but have come to considering one of the modern eras nastly lightly neccessities.2. Remind all the God fearing voters in Texas, that he is a good and faithful Christian, and therefore garner their support. Do not even get me started on what I think of this sort of thing.3.To mis-inform, deflect and obfuscate the issues at hand, which seems to a very common slight of hand form of politics no taking place in this state and country and planet by many on both sides of the political fence.

I only read the article, because as a Christian, it interests me to see how our faith (Christianity) is politicized, and use as an excuse or reason (not the same thing) in this day and age.

Losing sight of the facts, the decison needed, or the reasons there are facts and decisions needed, is easy and made even easier when adding what has become a devisive issue, religion, into the mix.

I agree that there is too much religion in Politics, and often too much Politics in Religion, especially for a nation whose constitution contains specific language to limit the issue.

It is not an act of God, willfull destruction to meet out punishment or retribution. It is an act of God, in my view because we are all his creation, and therefore nothing we do can be considered not to be traceable to yahweh (GOD).

But man has free will, and we often choose to excercise it poorly, with avarice and contempt of our fellow man and the world we all share, and the results can be as we see in the Gulf today or as we saw with the Exxon Valdez.

To the Atheist, who will no doubt try and sieze upon this posting for its personal and religious content, as these are, in your world view random acts of fate and universal physical law. Please be careful when you go outside, fate is waiting; and it is completely without regard to your well being, and a purely mathmatical force in its judgement, and you are pushing the odds!! ;-)

V, Perry hasn't done shit to keep this state from, "falling into the morass." Unless you count running a state government that is in ab absolute budget crisis, bottoming out our education system, passing laws regulations that have lead to Texans having the highest utility and insurance rates in the nation. We may not have a state income tax, but our cost of living is skyrocketting under Governor Perry.

Perry does what people like home builder Bob Perry tells him. Bob is the biggest single donor in the nation to the GOP. THAT is the reason Rick doesn't do anything about illegal immigration. Bob Perry needs that cheap labor to keep creating his shoddily built houses.

capt jack "Why hasn't this moron been impeached?"

Because in Texas we can tell the difference between a phrase commonly used to describe catastrophic, unpredictable events from (used by the insurance industry as well) from a declaration of divine intervention.

We also can tell the difference between economic policies of a gov who has kept the state from falling into the morass of, say, calif or many other states.

I don't even LIKE the guy but respect where it's due...something escapes hate-mongers like yourself. And idiots like the author of this article.

As a devout liberal who does not support offshore drilling, all I can say is this is the type of one sided, word-twisting reporting that is continuing to divide the people our country. We don't need more faux news outlets producing this type of ignorant crap to continue putting walls between our fellow countrymen.

I hope that one day our country will have a REAL fair and balanced news network that will not be funded by corporate organizations or have any sort of political agenda. We Americans and our children deserve to have a network with an educated report on the matters at hand as well as holding a blind eye to any sort of partisanship.

As people continue to stop thinking for themselves and believing everything the networks tell them, the foundations of which this country was founded on will continue to erode.

Whoa - there's a nice myth people have been telling themselves for centuries! The quandry that type of thinking creates is one of the best arguments for atheism possible. People pray for rain, and when it rains it's divine intervention, but not the floods that kill hundreds. When will we ever grow up and stop all this magical thinking and just see the universe as it is?

And I agree - the blog above is tongue in cheek.
