Jolly in, umm, happier times
Johnny Jolly, the pride of Forest Brook High and Texas A&M, just wants to spread the love. Now with the Green Bay Packers, he's dealing with the fallout of being arrested here two years ago for possessing codeine, which is as Houston as it gets.

Jolly's out on bond pending a trial later this year, and part of the conditions is that he can't drink or use drugs.

Nightclubs in Houston are always full of drink, and sometimes full of drugs. So prosecutors and a judge were not too happy with a flyer showing Jolly encouraging everyone to come to a big ol' party at the Blue Door May 7.

Especially since he had missed a court appearance two days before, claiming appendicitis.

The Associated Press reports Jolly's lawyers told the court that his name and likeness is often used to promote events like parties. The lawyer, the AP noted, "said Jolly had been hospitalized, but after the court hearing, she declined to say if Jolly had actually hosted the party or attended the event."

She told the judge "there was no evidence" Jolly was at the nightclub.

Prosecutors wanted Jolly's $10,000 bond raised, but judge Mike Anderson instead tightened restrictions so that nightclubs are no longer in the defensive lineman's future pending trial.

While Anderson did not raise Jolly's $10,000 bond, he ordered him to submit a hair sample for additional drug testing, adhere to a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, be evaluated by a drug counselor and to not attend "clubs or any other establishment where drugs or alcohol are used."
"'I had better not see any more flyers like this,'" Anderson told Jolly, holding up the rectangular, color glossy flyer that had a photograph of Jolly wearing a blue polo shirt, a cap on backward and a large gold watch next to a headshot of Jolly in his Packers' helmet."

Sounds like a great party! Wish we had seen the flyer in time.
