Loretta Pearl Ramos, 32, and her beau Carlos Alberto Hernandez-Munoz, 27, were tearing it up yesterday on the Seawall in Galveston when Hernandez-Munoz decided he wanted to kick things up a notch or two.

Ramos later told police that Hernandez-Munoz was "extremely intoxicated," so in a way, it kinda makes sense that he would demand that she give him $20 for a few crack rocks. After all, it was only a little before five p.m., and if you're gonna rock and roll all night, and you're already snot-slingin' drunk before the sun is down, a good jolt of crack is just what the doctor ordered.

But Ramos refused to turn over the money, and Hernandez-Munoz got mad. According to police, Ramos later said that Hernandez-Munoz fished a pocketknife out of his pocket, and stabbed Ramos stabbed in the left upper arm just above the elbow. Ramos fled along the Seawall to Club 23, a dive bar Obi-Wan Kenobi might well call a "wretched hive of scum and villainy" if he ever tooled his Landspeeder down the Seawall. Hernandez-Munoz and a drinking buddy Ramos knew only as Christian followed on their bicycles.

Before she could make it in inside Club 23, Ramos claimed to police that Hernandez-Munoz grabbed her and bit her. Bit her real bad... Like clamped down on her lower lip and ripped it completely off her face.

Ramos said she eventually made it to Club 23, where she claims to have begged people to call the police, but she claims the people there heartlessly refused to help her. The Galveston County Daily News picks up the tale:

"But the bartender just advised her to get out of the bar," [Galveston police spokesman Captain Jeff] Heyse said. "Ramos advised she ran across the street to Edgewater Retirement Community and was able to get the front desk clerk to call 911."

A woman who said she works at the club and said she witnessed the incident disputed Ramos' version of events. The bar employee, who would not give her full name, said Ramos stuck her head in the front door, yelled for someone to call the police, then ran to the retirement home.

The bar employee said she never called the police.

Nevertheless, Hernandez-Munoz was tracked down nearby and arrested. Police say they found a bloody pocketknife in his possession, and he is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and held on $100,000 bail.

As for Ramos, doctors at University of Texas Medical Branch easily patched up the puncture wound on her arm, but they couldn't do anything about her disfigured face.

Her missing lip has yet to be found.
