Pause, reader, to spare a thought for the young boy or girl, growing up in the Clear Creek school district, who wants nothing more than to spend a life processing meat.

For years, his school district has helped that hopeful flame grow from the merest spark to a fire that can light the world. But no longer.

Clear Creek is getting rid of its meat-processing class.

"The meat processing program was offered at two high schools, but due to a low number of students requesting the course, it will not be offered during the next school year," CCISD spokeswoman Janice Scott tells Hair Balls.

The USDA-certified program was offered through the district's Career & Technology Education department. One parent called us to complain that the cuts were being made to finance athletics. (He also said metal-shop classes were being discontinued, but Scott says that rumor is false.)

It's not athletics that killed the course, it's Progress.

"According to CTE Director Nancy Mallini," Scott says, "the job opportunities for that field of interest has little or no growth nationwide. The industry is becoming highly mechanized or automated."

The robots are taking over everything, we're telling you.
