Don't Depend On Light Rail To Get You Anywhere This Weekend

​If you were thinking you could drink freely downtown this weekend and take the light rail home, think again. It's "Set Back the Clock" weekend at Metro, as they abandon the sleek 21st-century wonder of light rail and regress back to smelly old buses.

A new pedestrian bridge is being installed over Fannin in the Medical Center, and that means trains are out of business. Instead shuttle buses will run along the light-rail route, to a degree.

For instance, the last bus train from UH-Downtown to points south tonight will leave at 8:30 p.m. Those Metro people know how to party!!

After that it's buses.

The rail will be out from 8 p.m. tonight until 2 p.m. Saturday, which is pretty much the entire weekend.(Don't ask us how that jibes with a "last train at 8:30 p.m." announcement.) We're sure the new pedestrian bridge will be great, though.

Starting at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday night, METRO will run rail shuttle bus service along the rail corridor at the following frequency (frequency refers to the time between buses):

Friday, April 16: 8 - 9 p.m. - 10-minute frequency
9 p.m. - 2 a.m. - 12-minute frequency

Saturday, April 17: 5:15 a.m. - 9 p.m. - 6-minute frequency
9 p.m. - 2 a.m. - 10-minute frequency

Sunday, April 18: 5:15 a.m. - 2 p.m. - 6-minute frequency
