Glenn Beck, Lowering The Standards For What Makes An "Honorary Texan"

• I have watched Glenn Beck's programs, and have come to the conclusion that he is an insane, bigoted, fear-mongering racist.

• It is true, however, that anyone who likes Glenn Beck is an idiot.

• People listen to Glenn Beck? He believes there were horses and elephants on the American continents before Europeans showed up. He also believes that Native Americans waged war with metal swords. And to make matters worse, he didn't grow up believing these things, he, at a mature age, decided to believe them.

• No. It's because he's a fear-monger whose arguments and grasp of history are highly questionable, yet people take him very seriously. Demagoguery at its finest. Pretty smart guy, though. Beck knows exactly what he's doing. He's banking on people who aren't intellectually aggressive enough to realize that by and large he's full of crap. No intelligent conservative I know respects Beck.

• It's amazing to me how worked up people are getting over Glenn Beck. Why? Is it because he's really some evil racist monster? Or is it perhaps that he is hitting too close to home for comfort, and people are starting to sit up and pay attention?

• Extreme liberalism survives on hateration, vulgarity and just plain nastiness. Oh, and totally irrational thoughts and actions. Yea, that.

John McCain will hold a press conference to say that he'd like to see the concerns of the "chocolate is really strawberry" movement addressed by Congress. Sarah Palin will blame the Lamestream Media� for not devoting enough time on the evening news talking about chocolate really being strawberry. Glenn Beck will smear his face and chest with ice cream and openly weep for America.

• I have watched Beck. Never heard the show, though. If you regard his program as a source of valuable analysis, or as historically enlightening, you're probably easily duped. It's the intellectual equivalent of high fructose corn syrup. And gang, do me a favor - explain what the real intent was behind the remarkable rhetorical gymnastics of the third quote. If it's out of context, what did he really mean, friends?

• Of course, Rick Perry made Glenn Beck an honorary Texan. Glenn is the one who took down Perry's opponent for Governor. He owed him at least that much!

In the name of big business, he's pandering to whackjobs, you know who you are, those that eat up, then propagate bull s$it about abortion, gays, undocumented folk, etc. And as you spew your Obama is a Muslim, or Obama is a socialist or Obama is the Antichrist, or Obama wants to take our guns, ask yourself why you align on the side of those people mentioned above who've literally sold themselves to the highest corporate dollars and don't give a flying f@ck about you. And they certainly don't have anything in common with you, nor do they care to. You are all cogs in the bulls$it machine. So no matter how much "rebranding" you try on your tea party faux movement, we all know that you're a lot less like The Ron Paul Movement and a lot more like those retards who stand outside the abortion clinics or the Westboro Church lunatics who protest at gay pride parades or outside funerals of our troops or the Palinites who try and defend her idiocy by playing the downhome Alaska mom BS. So you continue your fight, whatever you're fighting for -- and march along little people -- straight to your history books, so you can study up on how fun it was for all the confederate soldiers who died for that glorious cause -- states rights -- or known to the rest of the world as the rights of each state to be a slave state. And again, if an armed group of all black people organized and called themselves a tea party, I'll assume you won't run away because you think they are Muslims or Communists or Maoists or members of ACORN -- cause they're not. They're just like you, except a few shades darker.

• I find it hard to fathom that you would applaud his style of 'history'. Discharging a few facts here and there is not exactly strong history, nor does it really constitute hard research. Indeed, whenever I have watched his rants, he does not follow good history, but merely abuses and manipulates it to satisfy his own narrative. For instance, quoting a founding father about 'small govt' (a very vague term) does not bear on modern issues, and despite the spate of quotes he vomits, he cannot know what some dead guy in the past would want in relation to the vastly altered conditions of today. This is similar to his stance that, since one of the founding fathers extolled the import of religion, he would therefore want us to teach religion today in schools (vague again and not referring to 'critical' teaching). Beck does not know what they would have wanted from this comment, and this constitutes nothing but the petty abuse of the past in service of his own conspiracy-theorist demagogic nonsense.

• I would bet that 99% of people who bash Beck have never watched a full episode or listened to his radio program. They just love to hate him based on a few quotes they've heard. If you would take the time to watch you'll find that he does a lot of research and reading, presents very good facts, and is open to criticism. He also has a knack for making the most boring topics interesting. I used to hate history but now I find myself reading stacks of history books. Even if you disagree with him I think you would enjoy his program.

The only particularly damning quote is the first one. I would be interested to see it in context. The guy has a radio show, a TV show and some sort of travelling live show, he says a lot of things, so maybe a little context would be helpful.

• It is important to understand why, what and how someone says something before jumping to conclusions. If someone does not watch Glenn Beck they would take these out of context, but once I began watching him I said, "this guy really does his homework." (I'm a history buff and he has a great team working for him).
