Dan Patrick: Radio Host, State Senator, Founding Father

​Dan Patrick, the former wacky sportscaster, sports-bar owner, current talk-radio czar and state senator, is adding another title to his portfolio: Founder of a movement.

Today Patrick is announcing the creation of the Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas, a group that will, we guess, not put up with all those RINO Republicans that apparently are everywhere.

"We are all proud members of the Republican Party and will remain so. However, this organization provides us with accountability outside of our political party," Patrick said. "We recognize we are first and foremost accountable to the people who elected us. We have dedicated ourselves to these core principals and have said 'this is who we are and this is how we will legislate.'"

Among the five core principals: "Protect life, support strong family values, and uphold the Judeo-Christian beliefs our nation was founded upon." Also, shockingly, something about protecting our borders.


Fourteen members of the state senate and 44 members of the House have signed up because why the hell not? You get your name on a pretty website that features a painting of the signing of the Constitution, plus links to the declarations of independence for the U.S. and Texas.

"With increased awareness of the citizens expressing their desire to be involved, it is exciting to be a part of this movement to accept the challenge of bringing our state and nation back to the conservative, godly heritage of our founding fathers," Rep. Dan Flynn (R-Van) said.

The group makes much of the 10th Amendment without quite using the words "states rights." The other four core principals:

-- Stand for conservative principals and to put people before Party.

-- Fiscally accountable, limit the size of government, and fight for free market principles.

-- Protect our borders and to support a strong military.

-- Honor the Constitution and protect the sovereign rights of Texas.
