Chef Tats: In Their Own Words

Categories: Cover Story

This week's feature, "Chef Tats," focuses on a new breed of chefs in the restaurant industry: those who are vibrantly and stunningly decorated with ink. No more starched white chef's jackets -- these chefs are young, brash and have a story to tell, both with their food and with their bodies.

For the next five days, we'll take a closer look at some of the chefs who were featured in our cover story and a few who weren't, to let them tell the stories behind their tattoos in their own words.

Our first chef actually isn't a chef at all, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have passion and creativity to spare. Mindy Kucan is a mixologist at Anvil Bar & Refuge who divides her time between Houston and Austin. You can catch her (and her shakers) at Anvil every Wednesday night, crafting both elaborate and traditional cocktails behind the bar. Hear her story below.
