The TexAgs political message board is probably not the best place to go for nuanced, sophisticated discussion of the day's issues, unless you think Fox News is fair and balanced.

But things can get lively. Like recently, when a poster named dermdoc put up an item headed "Laid off my first Obama voting employee today."

Our reimbursement rates are spiraling downward, taxes are projected to go up with Obamacare, so I did it.

This is for you crag.

On another note, my internal medicine doc for 20 years is retiring over this Obamacare crap. I am really starting to get pissed......

Firing people for their political views -- it's the American way.

As you can imagine, fellow Aggies were quick to condemn him...for not laying off more of those godless Democrats, more or less.

"Good for you doc!" said one.

"I would love to be able to fire Obama voters. Youre helping them more than hurting them. Conservatives are not the only ones who need to realize that elections have consequences. Its time to grow up and live in the real world," said another.

Some did complain that it was unseemly, and possibly illegal. To which the answer came from "aTm2004" -- "To those of you complaining...STFU. DermDoc is a business owner and had to make a business decision. As somebody said, elections have consequences and the person they voted for, and whose policies they support, directly led to their job loss."

Dermdoc did express one regret about his action. "I'll probably have to see some foreign med school grad with a hyphenated last name," he wrote. "This sucks."

Yes, something definitely does suck. But we think it's you, dermdoc.

Interesting that the doc seems most upset that his "reimbursement rates are spiraling downward," i.e., he's getting less money from the government, which of course is led by that commie Obama. Sorry, did I say interesting? Silly me, I meant hypocritical.
Bragging about firing someone because of who they voted for is actually a federal offense. Saying "if you vote for X I will fire you" is voter intimidation, and has no place in a modern democracy. But this is all idle speculation, really. A post by a pseudonym on the internet is not proof that someone really did get laid off, or even that this was the real reason he laid off a staff member, but it does paint a big target on his back for investigation for issuing criminal threats and engaging in illegal retribution. So no matter whether the poster mentioned in the article did this or not, it was a dumb move.
Actually, until he was fired, he appeared to be an employed person. Interesting definition of a "leech". Now, he may have to apply for unemployment and we all know that right wing talking points label anyone who has to do that as a "leech" - so I guess this brilliant doctor created a "leech" where there wasn't one before. But logic is not a strong suit with the self-righteous and ignorant.

Actually, it's against the law to fire someone based on who they voted for. That's called "discrimination", and has nothing to do with racism. The fired employee actually has a case with the EEOC as a result.

It works both ways. Business owners need to understand that they're not the boss. Your customers are the boss, and if you project a hyper-emotional, un-professional attitude, then customers can boycott your business. He probably truly regrets making the story up now. His business will likely suffer now that it's made national news. The fact that he carried on with the lie until he was called out, says all that you need to know about his character. This so typical of an Aggie. We now have a premise for another Aggie joke. Aggies truly live up to their "awe shucks" image. They just can't catch a break. They're bumblers.

Cite the statute in question that forbids that firing. And before you cite the First Amendment, realize that the doctor in question IS NOT the government, and is therefore not required to treat individuals equally based upon the content of their speech.

Insurance companies followed suit with cuts equal to medicare 3. Bush tax cuts expiring (thank's Obama) 4. Projected tax increases from Obamacare by office manager Cuts had to be made and the doc never mentioned why that person was chosen specifically. The doc is also helping that person find another position with another doctor's office.

If I were to run a major business and fire someone for voting McCain, can I expect the same backing from the right? I highly doubt it, because these are the people who oppose the big state until it benefits them. This is the party, though, that brought the PATRIOT Act to America, so they have no problem with taking away civil rights when they're used by those who would dare to oppose them. This man should be re-instated, and the so-called 'doctor' who fired him should be made to sit the citizenship test, to prove he knows more about his country than what he gleaned from the barely coherent ramblings of some outcast from sanity on a Murdoch TV Channel.

In 1992 I started law school with an anesthesioligist. I was shocked that this person wanted to leave a valued profession. He told me that his liability insurance was $50k per year. (and he had never been sued for malpractice.) He was working more hours to support his staff than ever before. Thank democrats for opposing Tort Reform and driving up health costs!!
Barbara Gordon - Discriminatory =/= racist. Plenty of American citizens go to foreign medical schools. Do you know why this is? Because they can't make the grade to get into the US schools. So essentially, less qualified physicians are practicing medicine. Why do you think so many foreign born people leave their home country to come to college and medical school in the US? Education costs here is exponentially more than anywhere else. Anyways, if that's the case, then the doctor shouldn't have made the admission of "Laid off my first Obama voting employee today" which explicitly implicates him in voter retaliation. In the two weeks since it was signed into law, has 'Obamacare' raised any taxes yet? No. Has it resulted in any reduced payouts or reimbursements? No. This has all the markings of voter retaliation, and the doc's admission only erases any doubt.

Some of you seem to have forgotten - the Constitution does not guarantee you a job. It does not guarantee you a payroll. It does not even guarantee fair and balanced. The Constitution was the First Contract with America that government would not force itself upon you. If I had a business, and had to employ someone whose ideas were detrimental to my business, I would not only fire them, but sue them to the hilt for damaging my business. If the government wants to say unfair, I would fight them to the hilt by challenging their interference. The government has no right nor has it any authority to tell me whom I may hire and fire, and to attempt to do so over-reaches it's authority. I thank God the good Dr. knows what side his bread is buttered on. There are several hundred thousand doctors in India and other countries waiting to take your place. Having visited training facilities in Delhi, I can attest that they are more state of the art then several clinics here in College Station Texas. It's amazing to watch the wingnuts rush to rationalize and defend this quack, when every single one of them knows good and well exactly what the point of his post was - to brag about a racist decision to fire someone who supported a black president that made changes to his precious golden egg incubator. Someone up there said "political decisions have consequences." Indeed; tell that to the 4300 dead servicemen and women killed by the 'consequences" of a war we shouldn't have waged in the first place. okay, i've been reading these comments and i just want to say that if the worst thing this employee has to endure in his life is getting laid off because of his political preference, then he's pretty damn lucky. you liberals think that people are entitled to or have the right to so many things, healthcare, welfare, etc. nobody in this world is entitled to shit, and you need to understand that. everything we receive in this world is a privilege, including birth. i'm a jewish conservative and i can tell you that i lost most of my family to the holocaust, but luckily my grandparents and parents escapted. i can't say that about my aunts and uncles and many other family members who i never had the chance to meet. my grandparents and parents came over here without a dime. they settled in texas and a very giving family gave them a place to sleep. they weren't given a government handout. my family was persecuted everywhere they went, but still worked hard to become something. my father paved the damn interstates to put himself through college because he grew up in poverty yet still wanted the same privileges awarded to people in this country. he worked his ass off to get where he is today, and liberals want to take that away from him by making him give his hard earned money back to people that SHOULD be doing the same thing, instead of sitting on their ass and receiving government money. so all of you Pieces of S***s can bitch and cry and moan all you want, but until you've walked a mile in my family's shoes, you don't know what real hardship is. so what he was laid off. he'll find another job. most of my family didn't even get that chance in their life as they were gassed, shot, or cremated for their religious beliefs. everyone on this thread needs to get a real perspective on life and stop complaining about someone that may have been laid off because of his political affiliation.

The bill passed merely a few weeks ago, no taxes have been raised as of right now, and in fact 162k new jobs were created in March. If anything, the economy is showing signs of recovery. Had the post said "Laid off my first black employee today" or "laid off my first homosexual employee today", people would be all up in arms because of discrimination. But because it's a politician, it's okay? I don't think it works that way. You know what the real problem is? Some of you might not like this but the real problem is female voters. When women got the right to vote, that's when the country took a nose dive because then all these politicians that appealed to our emotion rather than reason came out of the wood work and it's been crap ever since. I am torn because being a gay man, I really appreciate the way liberals fight for me. I voted for Obama because as a half minority, he can appreciate the issues I have being a homosexual. This is a civil rights crime. The doctor involved retaliated against an employee for excercising their constitutionally protected right to cast their vote. I suggest anyone who is interested start figuring out how to out this doctor. I hope that this leads to a federal lawsuit. While Texas may be a "right to work state," they are still subject to federal civil rights laws.
