That Right-Wing Guy Who Tried To Mess With A Senator's Phones? Rep. Pete Olson Loves Him

James O'Keefe became a right-wing icon when he exposed some idiots at ACORN via undercover video. (No telling how many ACORN offices he visited with his schtick before he found a victim, of course.)

His hero image was tarnished a bit last week when he was arrested for entering the offices of Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana in order to mess with her phones, no doubt for some hilarious investigation.

O'Keefe has admitted he messed up (His "On reflection, I could have used a different approach to this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities that people understandably have about security in a federal building" gets the No Shit, Sherlock Award of the Day.)

Still, most of his right-wing fans are running for the hills to distance themselves from him. But let us not forget those who praised him lavishly, like Sugar Land congressman Pete Olson.

As the blog Brains & Eggs points out, Olson was so taken with O'Keefe's courageous actions in his ACORN stunt that he introduced a resolution to the friggin' Congress honoring the guy.

He said O'Keefe and his colleague Hannah Giles "are setting an example for concerned citizens across America" (Note the present tense; Olson obviously had faith that O'Keefe would continue his pranks.)

From Olson's website:

"Hannah and James should be applauded for their efforts to root out corruption and abuse of federal tax dollars," said Rep. Olson. "Their actions resulted in the House and Senate taking decisive action to block tax dollars from going to an organization that has been under scrutiny for voter registration complaints, embezzlement of funds, and a disturbing tolerance for bogus tax evasion activities.

"American taxpayers are already on the hook for too large a portion of their hard earned money. The undercover investigation conducted by Hannah and James demonstrates the concern young people have with the tax burden being placed on them."
Heroes, they are.
