Tomorrow Night Is The Night To Party With An HISD Teacher: It's Bonus Time!

​Gigolos, gold diggers, get yourself ready -- the teachers of HISD will be out tomorrow night, and they will be $40.4 million richer than they are today.

Tomorrow is the day teacher-performance bonuses get direct-deposited into the relevant accounts. Surely you can cadge a few free rounds at the celebration Happy Hours.

The deets, according to HISD:

In all, 15,688 HISD employees will receive performance pay ranging from $25 to $15,530. That's 88 percent of eligible HISD employees. The largest bonus paid to any one teacher is $10,890 with an average award of $3,606. Among principals who received some award, amounts ranged from $240 to $15,530 with an average award of $6,124.

Our advice: Look for a very happy principal.

The bonuses are awarded under HISD's ASPIRE program, and represent a $8.8 million jump over last year's figure.

"These bonuses are a testament to the high quality staff we have on our campuses and their focus on differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all HISD children," HISD superintendent Dr. Terry Grier said. "The students are winners as well because our data shows they are making notable academic gains from year to year because of the efforts of our dedicated employees."

The ASPIRE program is one of the budget items HISD eventually hoped to fund through federal stimulus dollars, but the federal funding in question was among the money Governor Rick Perry turned down.
