Closed-Minded Bigots Have Decided To Boycott Boycott Houston

Earlier this week Hair Balls talked to Pastor David Grisham, a man of the cloth who was proclaiming the utterly reasonable, open-hearted and accepting gospel that the world should boycott Houston because we have a gay mayor. Oh, and there's a Planned Parenthood outlet mall here, or something.

Sadly, some Houstonians are a little more closed-minded than the good Pastor Grisham.

Boycott Boycott Houston has hit the Faceybooks, courtesy of Ed De La Garza, who is obviously on the express train to Hell.

"Personally, I like the fact Houston is open-minded. You should too," he says. "But we should remember that in the spirit of tolerance, we should understand these people. Understand that they're close-minded bigots."

The group describes itself this way:

Committed to showing Houston isn't as backwards as a lot of other places in the state. We are a blue island surrounded by a sea of red. Houstonians are progressive. Deal with it.

In a short time, more than 180 have joined up. They, too, are all no doubt going to hell, to sit among baby corpses and be forced into the homosexual agenda.

biggest christian hate group in the world. if you speak out watch out! Times have certainly changed. First, America's Supreme Court (SCOTUS) ruled 5-4 to block broadcast of federal court proceedings relating to whether California's Proposition 8 ballot initiative banning gay marriage violates US constitutional protections of due process and equal protection so as to protect gay-marriage-ban supporters who feared harassment and threats they had received because of their position. SCOTUS's majority opinion, supported by all four conservatives (Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito) together with swing voter Justice Anthony Kennedy, "notes that some individuals had received death threats, envelopes containing a powdery white substance, confrontational phone calls, threatened boycotts, and vandalism. Some witnesses said they would not testify if the trial were broadcast...." Now SCOTUS has agreed to consider whether names of people signing ballot-initiative petitions (in this case, to repeal Washington State's same-sex domestic partnership law) should be kept secret "to protect the signers' right to engage in political speech and political association". It seems petition signers in Washington fear "threats, harassment, and reprisals" if their names get released under Washington State public records laws. Ninth Circuit judges had ruled against Protect Marriage Washington's suit, opining that signers hadn't been promised confidentiality and that transparency of elections was at stake, but SCOTUS stayed that ruling pending its decision. As this second case about protecting anti-gay-rights activists wends its way through SCOTUS, one can almost remember those bygone times when it was gays who worried about violence from homo-phobic straights instead of vice versa. Did these cases really belong in America's highest court? Did blocking broadcast of legal proceedings when everyone already knew who was scheduled to testify really make any sense? Gays are out to kill to get there way.
I hope not everyone thinks that this area is like Grisham and his disciples. He is a waste of space that is ruining our city's name for his own purposes. A number of people don't like him at all. good luck, there's a very small swath of houston that is actually gay-friendly, just fact. and i despise these right wing bible nuts who keep playing on it. hopefully there will be some bravery telling these guys to go away and worship jesus boy in Utah or elsewhere.
The boycott boycotter are gonna have their work cut out for them. Look at all the <a href="http://www.boycotthouston.com/?page_id=3">names</a> that the boycotters already have on their growing petition.
Houston is unquestionably blue. Democrats took 80% of the initial mayoral vote this cycle.
I think Boycott Houston is great. I don't want their bigoted asses here anyway.

Houston is tolerant and open minded, but it isn't progressive or blue. It's straight up purple. Part of being diverse and tolerant is dealing with, dare I say tolerating, people whose views and lifestyles you may find repugnant. I say just ignore them and move on - that's the Houston way!
