Bayou Body Count: Sometimes The Cases Are Easy, Sometimes Not

Take, for instance, a case last Friday inside a home at 10727 Lumber Ridge Trail. Sandra Martinez and her husband, Cesar Barrera, had been arguing most of the night when at about 9:30 p.m. Barrera decided to go to bed.
But then Martinez allegedly snuck into the closet, took Barrera's handgun and then put it to use. Investigators say Martinez, 36, shot her husband in the head while he lay in their bed.
Martinez was charged with murder after she admitted to killing Barrera, police say.
The cops nabbed another alleged killer this weekend when they arrested 17-year-old David Cooley. At about midnight on Saturday, patrol officers heard gunfire outside of Reed's Lounge at 4321 Reed Road and then saw two guys running away.

Police identified the victim, George Ellison, 55, of Houston, who had been shot to death. Officers later determined that Cooley was the shooter and have charged him with capital murder.
Of course, many murder investigations do not wrap up so quickly.
On Tuesday night, Harris County Sheriff's deputies drove out to the Autumn Tree Apartments at 200 Hollow Tree to check on reports of gunplay. When they got there, the deputies found Kyre DeWitt, 29, sitting in a white Honda Accord. He had been shot to death.
Witnesses told the deputies that they'd heard a shot and then saw the Honda slowly roll across the parking lot before stopping on a grassy median. Inside the car were drugs and several hundred dollars in cash, authorities say. The investigation continues.
Chansey Jolivette and a friend were in their motel room late Friday night at 3223 South Loop West when they heard someone knocking on the door. Despite not knowing the woman outside, they opened up. Immediately, Jolivette tried to slam the door back shut as several shots were fired into the room. Jolivette, 20, was killed, police say, and his friend was not hurt. Police are still trying to figure out how many people were involved in the shooting.
Brian Davis was walking down the sidewalk on the 12600 block of Ashford Meadow Drive at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday when suddenly a car pulled up to him. A man got out and walked up to Davis. Then the man shot Davis several times, police say. Police are investigating.
Finally, police are trying to figure out who shot a 54-year-old man at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday. Officers received a call about a shooting and arrived at the 9300 block of Richmond Avenue to find the man sitting in the driver's seat of his car with a bullet in his head, police say. Investigators say there are no witnesses or suspects.
