The Examiner website reports that U.S. District Judge Sim Lake tossed most of the claims Kawaljeet Kaur Tagore had made under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Tagore had said her religion required her to wear the four-inch dagger. The IRS had different thoughts about dagger-wielding agents, even if the daggers were small.
Lake didn't dismiss the entire suit, just some claims under specific laws, and some defendants. Tagore can still proceed with a suit against Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.
Tagore's family made headlines in December when they revealed sheriff's deputies had harassed them after they had dialed 911 to report a burglary attempt.
Harris County officials later apologized for the incident.
