Bayou Body County: Bloody Weekend In Houston Town

It was around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when Mayra Renteria called the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Her estranged husband, Tomas Carreon, had just walked into her parents home on the 19400 block of Tree Orchard Drive, where Renteria was staying, and began shooting. He killed her mother, Marina Schaerer, 42, father, Robert Schaerer, 49, and their son, Salvador Renteria Jr., 14, authorities say.

Carreon, 29, then fled.

Mayra Renteria told deputies what Carreon looked like and they broadcast the description over the police radio. As turned out, more than just deputies were listening. A tow-truck driver heard the news and spotted Carreon along the 19500 block of Clay Road. He flagged down a deputy, who then tried to detain Carreon near a day care center.

But it was not to be. The deputy claims he heard a single gunshot ring out and then found Carreon, dead from a blast to the head, behind a wooden partition. A semi-automatic pistol was lying next to Carreon's body, authorities say.

Houston police are also investigating an apparent murder-suicide.

Just before 5 a.m. on Friday, Michael Normand, 64, was leaving his home on the 7500 block of Katy Freeway when he began bitching to a security guard about a car that was illegally parked. Normand apparently woke up several neighbors, including David Hampton Ledet, 37, who walked outside to tell Norman and the guard to shut up because his kid was inside sleeping.

Normand started arguing with Ledet and then went into his house and returned with a handgun. Ledet allegedly shoved Normand, who then unloaded on Ledet several times, police say. Normand then took his own life with a single shot, police say.

An 11-year-old boy was accidentally shot Wednesday evening at 802 Blanchard Hill Lane. Police say the boy was upstairs with his two brothers when one of them, 13 years old, found a gun and began playing with it. The gun accidentally fired, police say, killing the boy.

The mother of the boys (and her boyfriend, Ronnie Dewayne Brown) was at home when the gun went off. Police have charged Brown with tampering with evidence and continue to investigate.

Also on Wednesday, the owner of a store shot and killed a man who was trying to rob him. Police say Bryan Thorn, 34, was trying to rob a cell phone store at 4901 Laura Koppe at about 5 p.m. when the owner, 36, pulled out a gun and shot him several times. A Harris County grand jury will hear the case to decide whether the store owner should be charged.
