How To See (Or Avoid Seeing) Taylor Hicks In Grease

Taylor Hicks, the winner of American Idol in Season 5 (2006), is coming to Houston to play the part of "Teen Angel" in the latest national tour of the musical Grease.
Broadway shows have long made a habit of picking up sales by putting in celebrities known to wider audiences. Besides the "big name" factor, there's a certain irresistibility about seeing whether someone famous can actually sing live and onstage. Oh and do that somewhat special brand of music called Broadway.
In Hicks' case, his American Idol experience gave him a pretty good dose of performing live in front of millions. He made his Broadway debut as Teen Angel and has been on the road with Grease since December 2, 2008.
Fans of Hicks are going to have to pick their tickets carefully. While the show brought here by Theatre Under the Stars is scheduled to run from September 8 through 20, Hicks will only be the angel:
Tuesday, September 8 at 8 p.m.
Wednesday, September 9 at 8 p.m.
Thursday, September 10 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, September 12 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Sunday, September 13 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, September 15 at 8 p.m.
Tickets go on sale July 19. So if you're a fan (or not) of Hicks (who has certainly had his ups and downs since winning the crown, and losing his record contract) -- plan accordingly.
Tickets for Grease at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts start at $24 and are available online at TUTS.com, by phone at 713-558-8887 or at the TUTS Box Office, 800 Bagby at Walker.
