Stages Announces Its 2009-10 Season

Stages Theatre, still basking in the success of its Grey Gardens production, has announced its 2009-10 season lineup.
There are a bunch of productions that are "regional premieres" but, it must be said, nothing as headline-grabbing as the musical about the Beale sisters.
But it's a solid series of productions, including:
Southern Rapture -- Based on the true story of a Charlotte, NC company's controversial production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Angels in America, this is a look at the culture clash of epic proportions. Stages' description tries to make it sound like Houston: "Marjorie is a respected theatrical artistic director in a growing Southern city that has almost achieved "world class" status, that might host the upcoming Olympics...and that values tradition above all else." Well, except for that last part.

A Picasso -- Picasso and the Nazis. `Nuff said.
Speech and Debate -- This comedy about high school gays and straights got a lot of great publicity when it opened off-Broadway last year, and should be popular here.
Man From Nebraska -- A drama from Tracy Letts, who's fresh off a Pulitzer for August: Osage County.
The Complete History of America (Abridged) -- Pretty much what the title indicates; this could either be very funny or very strained. We'll have to wait to see.
The Andrews Brothers -- Guys have to get in drag in WWII when the Andrews Sisters can't make a USO performance. Geez, lots of gayness and drag this season...What is this, theater or something?
There's also another "panto" for Christmas; Sleeping Beauty is the take-off point for this British traditional event.
