Moody Gardens, A Bigger Tourist Attraction Than The White House

If you had your choice to stand anywhere as a tourist in the United States, where would you choose?

The Las Vegas Strip? Mount Rushmore? The White House?

No way, dude -- you prefer to be standing in Moody Gardens in Galveston.

At least you do if you're one of the respondents to what has to be described as a highly, highly unscientific survey of The 100 Greatest Places in the USA, put together by some website called StoodThere (Motto: If it's on the internet, it's true!!!)

Moody Gardens came in 37th on this list (so far), beating out such much-more-likely places as Alcatraz in San Francisco, the Hollywood sign in California, Gettysburg, Graceland, and the list goes on and on.

Say the people who put the list together:

The Top Ten is emblazoned with US 'stars' such as the Hoover Dam, Empire State Building, Niagara Falls, Statue of Liberty, Grand Canyon, etc, but some of the lesser known locations are making a good showing - most notably The Lost Sea at Craighead Caverns in Tennessee, which briefly took the top spot.

At the other end of the list it appears that Plymouth Rock and the controversial nomination of The Las Vegas Strip are being ignored by voters.
The list apparently gets updated all the time, so a strong run of bogus voting by local chambers of commerce could very well have changed it when you click on it.

Also of note: Voters would rather be somewhere called Bodie Ghost Town in California than Moody Gardens. Or Bourbon Street in New Orleans, so maybe Galveston should feel in good company.
