Hey Drayton: Stop Treating Astros Fans Like Idiots

• maybe if u fat asses cared less about ur food and draynk, u'd realize that u're ARE idiots. by supporting a league whose players shove needles into their butts causing a shrinkage of balls and the growth of bitch tits, u are simply a part of the erosion of the american value system. how do u look ur children in the eye and tell them it's okay to emulate this type of behavior? i have an idea--instead of looking ur child in the eye, grab two large-pronged salad forks, pin him down on the ground with ur knees on his shoulder blades and jam the forks through both eyeballs until they reach the back of his skull so he won't have to witness these bastards lining their wallets with your hard-earned money.

• As a kid, I remember stopping by Antone's on OST and picking up a bagful of po boys to take to the Dome to watch the Oilers play. But at Minute Maid, we're forced to endure bad overpriced food. Naively, I'd assumed that this was simply reality in Big Time Sports, circa 2009. Finding out that Houston fans were alone in having to get a footlong in the buns from Uncle Drayton is the last straw. We've been attending a dozen or so games a year, even though the team has been dreadful. But no more. Last week's visit (and the four $50 seats we bought) will be our last until the food policies change.

• The aramark concession workers are a horror story. Slow and rude would be polite way of describing them.

• MMP is a great place to watch a ballgame as there's hardly a bad seat in the house. However, the amenities do suck. The food is disgusting, the staff (Aramark & Ushers) are poorly trained/managed, the audio bombardment of ads and music is distracting and annoying when you're trying to converse with others. The parking options a plus in my book. Even with Discovery Green, there is plenty of available nearby street parking if you know where to look. It's also so much easier to exit the game than it was at the Dome. Too bad there aren't many decent food/drink options near the stadium.

• I really hope this leads to changes, but in the mean time I will just continue to sneak in an enormous amount of food.

• I would venture to guess that that vast majority of Houstonians who've attended a game at MMP would emphatically disagree with you. To say that the fan experience is terrible is just laughable. You've obviously never attended baseball games at the Astrodome. As someone who grew up in the Astrodome days, let me tell you, MMP is fantastic. While I definitely agree that the 'Stros should join the rest of the majors and allow outside food, you've way off base on the other aspects of MMP. In fact, you don't sound like much of a sports fan at all. If you're going to lambast the team for it's performance, acknowledge that we've just come off about a 10 year span where we were one of the few most successful teams in the majors. It's uneducated and fair weathered sports "fans" like you who insist that the home team win big EVERY year, and if they don't, they're chumps. MMP park is one of the gems of the majors and to criticize it is just plain ignorant.

• I completely agree on the food question. Just the phrase "the only team in MLB" ought to cause a lightbulb to light up somewhere at Astros central. Don't count on it though. I have to disagree on the parking, though. I work three blocks from the centerfield gate. At 6 pm parking on the street becomes free, and there are plenty of spaces available. How many pro venues offer the prospect of free parking and a 3-block walk? Much better than the 7 bucks for a half-mile slog that I often endured at the Dome.

• Drayton is an insincere snake-oil salesman. If you stand still long enough at MM, he'll come by and slap a sandwich board on you. He has gotten his last dime from me. I'll be watching at home, with my excellent home cooked goodies, fast-forwarding through the commercials.
