Coming This NFL Season: Vintage Oiler Uniforms! In, Um, Tenne-Freakin'-See

The NFL announced today that they'll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the old AFL with a series of games featuring the league's original uniforms.

Four times during the upcoming season, the famed Columbia Blue uniforms of the Houston Oilers will once again be seen on the field. Just not in Houston.

It's the Tennessee Titans who'll be sporting the gear, because people in Nashville have long had an abiding connection with the Luv Ya Blue boys. No trip to the Music City is complete without a visit to the downtown statue featuring Earl Campbell running over a linebacker and Kenny Stabler sipping a scotch as he studies the playbook by the light of the jukebox.

We know Bud Adams took the Oilers' legacy with him to Tennessee -- that's why the Texans are called the Texans -- but this is a slap in the face.

The Titans will suit up as the Oilers for games against Buffalo (twice), New England and the Jets. We're sure their fans will appreciate the derrick helmets just as much as we would.

We can only fiercely hope that in each of those four games, the Titans jump out to a 35-3 lead and then blow it. It's the only fitting tribute that makes sense.
