Last Call For Art: Shows Closing This Weekend

The drama Orphans, by Lyle Kessler, has its final performance this weekend. The stage is set when two young men, getting by pulling petty crimes, kidnap a drunken businessman. This is your last chance to see "Henrique Oliveira: Tapumes," the first solo exhibit in the US for the Brazilian artist. The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston's Teen Council packs up "Perspectives 165: Contents Under Pressure," a group show with work by more than 40 young artists. Wordsmyth Theater Company's 2009 Texas Playwrights Reading Series closes out its season for the year with The Good Son by Joe Barnes. The play is centered on family matriarch Violet Barkleys. Her whole family has gathered for her birthday party, including her dead husband and son. As the celebration progresses family secrets, some insignificant and some life-changing, are uncovered. Press materials call it "an unflinching look at how the past shapes the present."
