But there was one mini-silver lining to those ominous clouds: the burn ban in unincorporated parts of Harris County has been lifted, officials announced this afternoon.
"Thanks to recent rains and a return to normal fire behavior," the county fire marshal's office said, the ban has been lifted. It had been in place for quite some time as we've been battling a drought.
April pretty much took care of the drought conditions, though, so feel free to burn away. Kind of.
"A little common sense goes a long way. You should not burn on dry or windy days. It is illegal to burn at night, or to burn in the open where flames, embers, or sparks can escape. And businesses can NEVER burn debris outdoors legally," the marshal's office says.
