Chris Baker's Show Is Returning To Houston, Not Chris Baker

We mentioned yesterday that KPRC-AM was bringing back right-wing looney Chris Baker to the Houston airwaves.

One thing they're not doing -- bringing right-wing looney Chris Baker back to Houston. Baker will be doing his show from Minnesota, where he has another radio gig.

Baker's being touted as someone who will do an intensely Houston-centric show. How does he do it from the frozen north?

Easy, Clear Channel AM head Michael Berry tells Hair Balls.

"He knows the community; he lived here eight years," Berry says. "He can read the papers, read blogs and watch TV. I don't think a guy who never lived here could do it, but he can."
Well, in that case, has your other imported pseudo-local host, Joe Pags (who does his show from San Antonio), ever lived in Houston?

"I don't think so," Berry says.

We also asked him whether there were any more cuts planned in the newsroom at KTRH, pretty much the city's only AM news option, which has seen its staff pared to the bone.

"I hope not," he says. "There are no plans for it. The ratings are as good as they've ever been, but it's taxing on your people -- you still have to make the same story count, but you have to do it with fewer people."

Maybe they could get some stringers to work from Minnesota.

Evan Schoppenhauer says:

Intent on ratings and cynicism, with no brains or intellectual curiousity, Michael Berry is a throwback to Bush, McCarthy and some broadcaster I can't name at the moment. He enjoys no journey through life, but is a bubble about to pop, and once it happens, I hope he can gather himself and get beyond real estate profits and pandering to those of slightly feeble mind, in order to do our city better. Right now he shames the fourth largest city with his programming. He is behaving as a poor fool in front of money, very low indeed.

Wilder Collins says:

Michael Berry knows how to get ratings. By bringing back Chris Baker he will regain the audience that was lost, including myself. I love the people who call us right wing nuts. Perhaps it's because we use facts to base our decisions on and leave our emotions on our shirt sleeves. Others who are jealous of the fact that they can only run on emotion lash out because it makes them feel justified to be in society. Poor souls indeed.

Chris Baker was orignally let go by Mike Berry to save money. He finally realized that after two years, he lost money and listners BIG TIME. People listened to Chris, not because of his conservative take on things, but because he was RIGHT.

Its amazing that the liberals complai all the time about lables yet they are the first to dinigrate anyone who disagrees with their leftist/marxist/socialist agenda such as Chris Baker.

Last time I looked this was a capitalist DEMOCRACY, not a marxist/socialist one. When Obama gets through raping and bankrupting this country, it will be people like Chris Baker and Mike Berry who will be remembered as the Harry Markopoloses of this era! Who is Harry Markopolos? He is the one who saw through Bernie Madoff years before anyone else and warned everyone he could talk to about what was going on, yet as with Chris and Mike, only a few listened. Those that did are solvent, those that did not are bankrupt. Same applies to Obama and the Democratic Party.

Kudos Chris and Mike and I for one will be listening again.

Jerome says:

Chris Baker, while an occasionally funny guy and a decent talk radio personality in my opinion, has many views which I disagree with and many of his arguments and reasonings are fraught with intellectual dishonesty, non sequiturs, and a preponderance of ad hominem denigration. Michael Berry's a lot worse, though. Berry's not funny in the slightest (beyond his own hypocrisy and irony from time to time) and he's really just a weak echo of the Rush/Hannity Party Line. Often it is I've been flipping through the radio, found Chris (or Berry), listened for a few minutes to see what he's talking about and where he's going with it, chuckled a few times (substitute rolling eyes when it's Berry), and then ultimately told the radio, "Shut up, Chris (Berry)," while flipping on to another station. I could debate both these guys into a corner - at least until they started interrupting and throwing out beside the point crud. Baker does his Houston show from Minnesota? Don't really care. Chris can be funny but for the most part, his take is very blinkered, one dimensional, and in the long run, a one trick pony show. I still remember when Baker had his head handed to him on a CNN back and forth - Chris forgot how to man up and stormed out like an irate girlfriend and another time when he threw a first pitch at a ballgame - a limp-wristed girl throw. Both of which has nothing to do with Chris' politics, mind you - but Chris will often use the whole girly vs. manning up when he's riffing on whatever. I don't listen to him or Berry for more than a few minutes at a time and I make very sure that if they go to break, no way am I listening to the commercials. Houston should be able to do better in my opinion.

I forgot to add - the United States of America is a Representative Republic ~not~ a Captialist Democracy. If you can't tell the difference, look it up.
