Adrian Garcia's Campaign Manager Wants To Move Up
Garcia responded that he had smoked as a teenager, saying he admitted that years ago on an application to the city's police department. Garcia's campaign played it right, using it as an example of Garcia's honesty and transparency, doubling as a knock against Thomas.
"When the ad backfired, our phones rang off the wall and checks poured in," Garcia said in his victory speech.
The person behind some of that spin and the rest of Garcia's campaign was Ed Gonzalez, Garcia's campaign manager since his city council days. Hair Balls asked Gonzalez about the campaign and the victory, and Gonzalez told us that it was an amazing journey and a tremendous victory. "Whenever you have one political power for too long, sometimes things go a little sterile," he said.
That's campaign manager stuff. But Gonzalez also told us that he'll be playing from the other side this spring, because he plans to run for the city council spot Garcia vacates after he takes over as sheriff.
It's way too early to talk about his own campaign, Gonzalez said, adding, "This is an exciting time for us."
The special election most likely will take place in May, according to the city secretary's office, although an official date hasn't been set.
