Starbucks May Leave MFAH's Mixed Media Series Scrambling For A Replacement
So, when we heard recent rumors about the Mixed Media Series getting canceled, we were a little worried and a bit surprised. The event, which pairs bands and DJs from all around the world with the MFAH’s exhibitions, seemed to be doing pretty well. (Read: it’s always packed with hotties.)
At Saturday’s event (which you can see pictures of here), an anonymous source told us that Starbucks might not be able to foot the bill for sponsorship anymore. We called the MFAH to find out if the party was in danger of being shut down.
“It's a bit too soon to tell,” says Mary Haus, Director of Marketing and Communications. “But we know we'd like to continue to provide programming for this audience in one form or another."
Haus says the MMS has been successful in drawing a college-aged demographic to the MFAH and they didn’t want to lose that. She says, as of now, however, there have been no sponsorships finalized for 2009.
The events always included free samples of Starbucks’s drinks and we’d like to keep that theme going, but maybe the MFAH could look to another beverage-based company for sponsorship … maybe one with a 40% proof …party.
