TEA Releases Ratings, Houston ISD Has Some Hits, Some Misses

Thirteen of the Houston Independent School District’s schools were deemed academically unacceptable by the Texas Education Agency in its just released annual ratings.

On the much brighter side, 38 received the top rating of exemplary, 118 got recognized status and 97 made the bare minimum of academically acceptable. Sixteen other schools in the district weren’t rated.

Top rated: the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, DeBakey, T.H. Rogers Secondary, Carnegie Vanguard, East Early College High School, Project Chrysalis Middle School, Pin Oak Middle School, Energized for Excellence Middle School, Briarmeadow Middle, and the elementaries: Allen, Lyons, Condit, Cornelius, De Zavala, Sugar Grove, Harvard, Henderson J, Horn, Kennedy, Kolter, Lantrip, Lockhart, Love, Lovett, Mading, Memorial, Montgomery, Oates, River Oaks, Twain, West University, White, Barbara Bush, Rice School, T.H. Rogers Elementary, Eastwood Academy, TSU Charter Lab School, and Seguin.

As for the unacceptable, it was a roundup of the usual suspects: Sam Houston, Jones, Lee, Community Services-Sec, Wheatley, Worthing, Long Middle, Fondren Middle, Woodson Middle, E.O. Smith Elementary, Benavidez, Fondren Elementary, and Pleasant Hill Academy Elementary. -- Margaret Downing
