Is It True That Pandora Is Dying?
Realizing and acknowledging my lack of time for musical appreciation, I turned to Pandora, an online radio station, in a sense, that takes songs you like and plays them and then recommends artists that are similar. So while I’m writing these Miss Pop Rocks posts, I can happily groove out to Apples in Stereo, which leads to Belle and Sebastian, which leads to Supergrass, which is some Oxford band I never would have had time to check out in my real life. But with Pandora, all I have to do is listen. It’s free, non-threatening, and easy.
So like anything in life that matches that criteria, it’s doomed not to last.
The Washington Post and others are reporting that the government and the big gross music media empire is conspiring to end something that is good for listeners and artists. God forbid! Why?! I can’t begin to understand all the ins and outs, but I do know that this news sucks.
Seriously, I do not know what I’ll do without Pandora. It’s the only thing keeping me from turning into a total suburban square. Honestly, check in with me a month after Pandora’s plug has been pulled. It’ll be Michael Bolton 24/7 over here.
