Filling The Starbucks Void -- Dunkin' Donuts

Categories: Spaced City
Starbucks may be cutting back on its Houston-area locations, but coffee lovers need not fret.

Dunkin' Donuts is set to fill that vacuum.

You may not be all that familiar with Dunkin' Donuts; even though there are a handful of stores here, it's more of an East Coast, northern thing. There are Bostonians who can't exist without their DD.

The best news is: it's cheaper than that overpriced Starbucks crap.

The company announced today plans for a massive invasion of the Houston market.

Dunkin' Donuts hopes to open 107 stores in conjunction with two franchising companies, and another 20 through franchises run by locals.

“Dunkin’ Donuts development of Houston and the state of Texas is part of an aggressive national growth strategy, which includes expanding in existing markets while entering new cities across the country to help direct the company’s future growth,” says Lynette McKee, CFE, vice president of franchising for Dunkin’ Brands, Inc.

As we remember them from our East Coast days, DD was a good-enough cup of coffee and decent donuts. On the other hand, they're in bed with the Boston Red Sox.

As a kid, I mostly remember their special donuts that came with a dunking handle on them for dipping into coffee (or milk, or cereal). Don't know if they still offer those.
