Coming Soon: The Anglo Minority In Texas

Categories: Spaced City
The U.S. Census Bureau released a new report today saying that minorities will become the majority in America in the year 2042.

There was no state-by-state breakdown (that will be released in a few months), but we talked to the State Demographer of Texas to find out when Anglos in the Lone Star State will no longer be the largest ethnic group.

And to answer your first question, yes, there is such a thing as the State Demographer of Texas.

"No, I don't get to wear a uniform -- but maybe I should go to Austin and see if I can get one, and maybe the rank of colonel," says Karl Eschbach, a professor at UT-San Antonio.

As to the more pressing question -- when are Texas Anglos going to become an oppressed minority? -- it's coming sooner than you might think.

Probably close to the year 2014, Eschbach says.

His office has done three different projections of when Hispanics will take over as the largest group in Texas, using different assumptions. The earliest date of the three is 2014 and the latest is 2020.

"But my subjective judgment is that it will be closer to 2014 than 2020," he says.

In fact, at the end of September they're releasing a new study, one that he thinks will show the current estimates are too conservative.

So get ready, whitey -- in just six short years you can begin clamoring for your minority rights.
