HISD Teacher: Put My Grandson With "Good White Neighborhood Boys"

Categories: Education
Joyce Dauber, principal at generally respected Mark Twain Elementary, has been reassigned pending allegations she made racist comments.

HISD has now released a copy of the complaint that originated the investigation.

Part of the complaint stems from Dauber's insistence that her grandson be placed in a class with "good white neighborhood boys."

Here's an excerpt:

[Dauber] made racist comments about the fact that she needed the 3rd grade team to make sure that her grandson was in a class with good neighborhood boys. When they teachers pulled out cards and suggested certain students, she declined some of them by saying 'No, that won't do. They need to be good White neighborhood boys.' The teachers alleged she did not make this comment once; she repeated it at least four times during the time they worked on this process....she elaborated that she wanted her grandson to be in a class with nice White neighborhood boys and if they said Asian or anything other than White, she responded by saying 'No. They have to be white. I know that sounds harsh, but they need to be white.'

Even if she ever gets back to Twain, sounds like someone will have some explaining to do.
