Friends Don't Let Friends Buy Guns For Friends

Categories: Spaced City
Residents in the Rio Grande Valley are about to be hit with some stern lecturing, via the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms and the Southern District's U.S. Attorney's Office.

"Don't Lie For The Other Guy" is the catchy slogan for a campaign designed to stop "straw purchases" of guns -- when someone buys a gun for another person who wouldn't be allowed to buy one on his or her own.

The campaign will feature billboards, TV and radio ads, bus signs and everything. It's a full-blown effort.

But it didn't get off to such a good start.

Things were supposed to get off to a grand beginning with a semi-star-studded press conference tomorrow.

But that's been canceled. The event was called off "in consideration of the power outages and flooding affecting the Rio Grande Valley following Hurricane Dolly," an announcement today noted. "ATF, the U.S. Attorney's Office and the [National Shooting Sports Foundation] recognize the hardship being incurred by the residents of the Rio Grande Valley and regret the inability to present the Don't Lie program directly to the community."

We guess that gives the Valley folks a few more days to lie.
