Over the Weekend: Deadbolt, Shelby Lynne, Ministry, Rockets, Drinking and Houston International Festival

As our music editor said a few weeks back, April indeed is the coolest month. Let’s get right to it.

Deadbolt at Rudyard’s

Billing themselves as The Scariest Band in the World and ragging on Dallas, Jane Fonda and anyone wearing Crocs, the voodoo surf punk band Deadbolt played Rudz on Friday night.

Shelby Lynne at Warehouse Live

The waifish Mississippian brought out four ringers and played plenty of Dusty Springfield covers.

Ministry at Verizon Wireless

No classics from these industrial pioneers, but a damn good time nonetheless.

Rockets Lose to Utah Jazz

Signs aren’t looking good for the T-Mac and the rest of the Rockets. Speaking of signs, our correspondent’s car got towed after he parked right under a sign telling him not to.

1:13 a.m. at the Flat; 1:34 a.m. at Absinthe; 1:50 a.m. at Etro

After the Rockets' lackluster playoff start on Saturday, it was time to hit the bars.

Houston International Festival 2008

April 20 means a lot of things to different people, but for thousands of Houstonians, it signaled African storytelling, art cars and turkey legs.

We’ve still got Astros and Aeros coverage to come. Stay tuned. – Keith Plocek
