High Steppin' in Rat City

Categories: Spaced City
If you hate rats, Houston is the second worst city in the United States of America to be. That’s according to a nationwide study commissioned by d-CON© just released today.

We are shocked. While we previously knew that some of the downtown parks had a problem, we had no idea how far the rodent troops had spread.

While Houston doesn’t quite match the aging infrastructure of a New York City (still No. 1 in rats!), other factors pushed it near the top of the list. Among them: our area’s increase in human population (and trash), unseasonably warm and wet weather (lush weeds and overgrown area providing cover for rats) and the dip in federal subsidies to control rodents.

The study was carried out by “the nation’s foremost rodent experts Dale Kaukeinen and Dr. Bruce Colvin” and is in part developed using the latest U.S. Census data.

The rest of the top 10 cities: 3. Boston, 4. Louisville, 5. Philadelphia, 6. Baltimore, 7. Washington, 8. Chicago, 9. El Paso, and 10. Milwaukee.

What can you do to fight the horde? Put trash in sealed containers and lose the junk piles. Don’t leave food out on counters overnight and limit access to pet food and bird seed. Seal up holes and cracks in your foundation. Cut brush and bushes back at least a foot from your home or office. And here’s a surprise: buy d-CON© baits and traps! – Margaret Downing
