Miss Pop Rocks: When Good Girls Go Bad, Vanessa Hudgens Edition!
Seriously, hear me out. This event reminds Miss Pop Rocks of a similar situation in which another attractive woman named Vanessa got into a whole mess of trouble when nude photos of her were made public. Walk with me back to the olden days of 1984, when Mary Lou Retton was Queen of the Wheaties box, “Karate Kid” was cleaning up at the theater, and a little magazine called Penthouse earned the rights to naked pictures of Vanessa Williams, who is still the only Miss America you know by name.
Sure there was a huge scandal when nude photos of Vanessa W. hit worldwide, but the attention she gained went on to propel her into a successful music, film, and television career. Last I heard, Little Miss Naked was scoring an Emmy nomination for her performance in TV’s “Ugly Betty.” Not too shabby when you think about it.
Let’s be real about this. Naked shots of cute women rarely result in their demise. In addition to Vanessa W., we’ve got Paris Hilton, Janet Jackson, and Britney Spears all still getting ink despite numerous shots of their T and A. Even Tara Reid survived a glimpse of her weird-looking, post-plastic-surgery nipple. And some gals have been known to jumpstart their careers with a little nudity. (Hello, Kim Kardashian.)
Yes, there will come a time when Zac Efron will go the way of all former teen heartthrobs and pop up in between Leif Garrett and Jonathan Taylor Thomas on an E! Entertainment Television production of “Teen Heartthrobs: Where Are They Now?” But with this nude photo situation, Vanessa Hudgens has cemented her place in Hollywood. Now we could have a grand debate about the sad situation we as a country are in when pictures of an 18-year-old girl naked earn her lifetime status as a star. Or we could get used to seeing the sparkling little smile of Vanessa Anne Hudgens. Because something tells me that despite this little snafu, she’s not going anywhere. Sigh. – Jennifer Mathieu
