There Is But One Story with Many Tellings

Categories: Get Lit
We were listening to Morning Edition on NPR (FM 88.7) this morning when we heard an interview with Aminatta Forna, author of Ancestor Stones, a fictional chronicle of the lives of five Sierra Leonean women.

The author read a passage that detailed a hungry crowd’s reaction when a box of lipstick accidentally arrived instead of food. The women, rather than being upset, joyously took hold of the makeup and used it to reestablish their humanity. It was a touching tale. It was also very similar to the manifesto of street artist Banksy. We’re just saying.—Keith Plocek
