In Cold Blog? That's Kind of Clever.

Twenty years ago local writer Steve Long wrote a book, Death Without Dignity, about the infamous murder trial of a Galveston nursing home.

He’s reminiscing about it now on a blog for true-crime writers called In Cold Blog, and let’s just say times have changed.

Long drank, ate and sat in chambers with the judge in the case, Don B. Morgan, who freely rambled on about which attorneys in the case he hated and which he thought were great. Morgan even joins a betting pool on the outcome.

Attorneys especially will learn that the rules on “ex parte” conversations (forbidden talks between the judge and one side of the case without the other present) were interpreted a little more loosely then.

It’s a fun read. Click here for the first part, and here for the second. – Richard Connelly
