Rebel Yell

Former state district judge Ted Poe has been in Congress for a couple of years now, and he’s been a huge disappointment to those of us expecting him to continue his headline-grabbing ways. As far as we can tell, he hasn’t introduced a single bill calling for unwed mothers to be placed in stocks in the courthouse square.

But worry not: The Poe Man is back!!

He’s blowing up the tubes of the internets with his speech Monday on the House floor, where he approvingly (and inaccurately) quoted Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest.

That’s the Nathan Bedford Forrest who’s also the founder of the KKK.

Somehow the Forrest reference doesn’t make it on the edited version of the speech transcript on Poe’s official Web site, but the C-SPAN cameras never forget.

We also like, by the way, how Poe is apparently ending all his House speeches with “And that’s just the way it is.”

To inaccurately quote Nathan Bedford Forrest, you gotta have a gimmick. – Richard Connelly
