His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso the 14th Dalai Lama gave two lectures yesterday at Rice University. This was his third appearance at Rice.
Known for his sense of humor, he occasionally burst into laughter, reminding this reporter of another spiritual master: Yoda.
But of course, it was the immortal words of Carl Spackler that kept running through my head:
"So we finish the 18th and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.' And he says, 'Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.'
