Groping for the Gavel

So Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick might not be the nicest guy, but we do have to wonder what the heck’s going on up in Austin, what with people once again calling for his ouster with less than a week left in this lege session.

From the Austin American-Statesman:

Speaker politics seemed to dominate the attention of many members all day Monday as the pace of debate on legislation slowed to a stroll even though the House faces internal deadlines for passing Senate bills over the next two days. Craddick spent much of the day in his office, not on the podium.

[…]

With so much Senate legislation awaiting action by the House, some sponsors began readying entire bills as amendments.

We can understand the bickering at the beginning of the session, but at this point shouldn’t those guys and gals actually be, you know, working on issues that actually affect their constituents? – Keith Plocek
