Apples and Oranges Are Both Fruit, After All

Categories: Get Lit

Tom DeLay's new book, currently #336 on Amazon.com after two weeks on the shelves, seems quickly headed for Half Price Books's clearance section where it will fit snugly between Ari Fleischer's Taking Heat and John Ashcroft's Never Again. So kudos to The Jewish Daily Forward for taking the time to sift through No Retreat, No Surrender (an amazing title for a man who forfeited his House seat) and finding one incredible passage:

"You know the big lie -- like the Holocaust never happened or dark-skinned people are less intelligent than light-skinned people. Well, by charging this big lie about money laundering, liberals have finally joined the ranks of scoundrels like Hitler."

As Keith Olbermann pointed out on last night's Countdown, it's hard to know where to begin. Charging that a redistricting policy might not have been totally lawful is on par with denying the Holocaust? Implying that Tom DeLay, no doubt headed for lucrative work in the private sector, has been targeted like blacks in the pre-Civil Rights U.S.? Proving that Godwin's Law applies to disgraced, self-important former Congressmen as much as it does uppity net nerds?

Maybe we shouldn't blame DeLay for anything in his book. After all, it's not like he's even read it. -- Nick Keppler
