Performance Art

It's time again to see if your dance skills are as priceless as fine art. The Starbucks Mixed Media Series is once again turning the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston into a hot spot for cheap drinks and scantily clad ladies. Oh yes, we're sure you really are excited about seeing the latest exhibit "Helio Oiticica: The Body of Color," but something tells us that's going to lose out to checking your ass in the mirror, not to mention those of the hot dudes/dudettes on the dance floor. Your rump will be in good hands tomorrow night, as New York's The Juan Mclean will provide plenty of electronica dance numbers that will make it hard for even the shyest of wallflowers to stay put. However, we recommend you give Cassiano and DJ Sujinho your full attention as well. The New York-based Brazilian duo combine the sounds of the States and their homeland for numbers like "Missy vs. Deize," which layers tracks from Missy Elliot and San Paulo artist Deize Tigrona. The pairing of Latin beats with American hip-hop is the perfect complement to Oiticica's work, but if you're too busy dropping it like it's hot to notice, we won't fault you for it. The Mink's Jeffrey Mac and the Mixed Media Series resident DJ Ceeplus and the House of Bad Knives start the night off. 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 24. 1001 Bissonnet. For information call 713-639-7300 or visit www.mfah.org. $15 ($10 for students, free for members). -- Dusti Rhodes
