He Wouldn't Want to Be Part of Any Club That Would Accept Him

Categories: Spaced City
Upon reading Ken Hoffman's column about the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau looking for "cool" people to help pimp the Bayou City, we were salivating over just who was on the list. After all, Hoffman described the group thusly:
[The] list also contained people I've never heard of, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. ... But I doubt it.

How many times are we going to send the same bunch of bolo ties to represent us, only for them to come back empty-handed?

This tired posse doesn't represent Houston 2007.

Just who was on the list for this focus group? And why had Hoffman declined to name them? Was it out of respect? Was it because he's a big wuss? Or was it because he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about?

We called up Lindsey Brown, marketing director for the GHCVB, to find out whom the bureau had invited to participate in the focus group. The list includes Marita Fairbanks (Fresh Arts Coalition), Catherine Anspon (art writer), Rick Ferguson (Houston Film Commission), Rachel Graham (Breakfast Klub), Allen Hill (musician and promoter) and some guy named Ken Hoffman (ahem).

If you ask us, the only person in that posse who's tired is...well, you know where we're going with this. — Keith Plocek
