Re: In the House

Meet the new boss.

So Tom Craddick gets to spend another session in charge of the Texas House. Although we can't say we're surprised, we are curious to see what will happen to the 27 Democrats who voted against him.

The movement to oust Craddick from his powerful position as House speaker gained momentum over the past week, but legislators (including many Democrats) decided to err on the side of caution and stick with the status quo.

Texas political blog Burnt Orange Report laments yesterday's outcome and lists the House Democrats willing to put their committee assignments on the line to stand up for what they believe in. Will their constituents pay the price for their show of bravery? Will Craddick relegate them to powerlessness, or is their small number enough to prove who's still boss?

I guess we'll find out. -- Julia Youssefnia
