Seasons Mother-effin' Greetings!
When we got the invite to Free Press Houston's "Holiday Bash & Staff Infection," with its "Seasons Motherfucking Greetings!" banner, we figured this would be one kuh-razy night, given that it's a Free Press party.
"Actually," says Omar Afra, self-professed "mismanaging" editor at Free Press, "it's gonna be low-key, pretty civil. Not what you were expecting, huh?" Um, no. Today's event features acts Riff Tiffs, The Southern Backtones, Million Year Dance, bojones, .belville, Nosaprise, Wes Wallace and Generic Tribe. Though it's doubling as the Free Press office party, it's open to the public. "We want everyone to come out," says Afra. "I mean, with the holidays, we could have an acre of kids show up."
The party also marks another anniversary of sorts for the venerable Inner Loop paper. "We're coming up on four years here, issue number 75," says Afra proudly. "Everyone said 'Three years, that's the magic number to hang in there.' And we have."
That's all well and good, but frankly, we were hoping for something at least a little askew for today's shindig. "Well, all the bands are supposed to get together and perform John Lennon's "War Is Over" at the end of the night," says Afra. "That should be cool, and hopefully it'll sound better than shitty." — Steven Devadanam
